We Canadians gonna try to negotiate a trade deal with these psychopathic child killers? You don't need to hand anything to the Iranian regime, but we might take a lesson from them on the merits of only engaging in fake negotiations with septic American gangster bozos. @mark-carney.bsky.social

Trump: "Very importantly, vaccinations for hepatitis B, covid-19, and influenza, among others, are no longer recommended for all children"

Taste(y) on the Danforth's return is much improved imho. Gone are the endless stalls selling non food shit in the middle of the street (incl in 2018/19 car dealer displays of wanktanks). Some resto gaps & subway construction ruins vibe east of Pape but it's the right direction. Back to basics.

Thrilled that my neighbourhood street festival (and Toronto's biggest!) is back after a few years hiatus. Taste of the Danforth - come for a visit.

Busy closed street

Carney's naïveté & cowardice is astounding. Even if he wasn't PM based on the express promise he wouldn't cave to Trump's gangster imperialism, Trump has never honoured a deal in his life, including the one he is breaking at this moment. It's like Carney just arrived on Earth from Planet Banking.

Fuuuuuck this capitulating, weak-ass, Neville Chamberlain-level bullshit. Our line should be either Trump drops ALL of his tariffs and his attacks on Canada's sovereignty or we start banning even more American shit. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

The big capitulation to the gangster fascist regime is coming down the pipes from the Conservative Party of Carney, after winning the 2025 election on the fraudulent promise not to capitulate to the gangster fascist regime. Shameful, humiliating, & dishonest. @mark-carney.bsky.social

"The U.S. is not expected to remove the 232 tariffs entirely, the sources said, and a key part of the negotiation revolves around the tariff levels that would remain in place." Genuinely, what are we even negotiating here? www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

Plutocrats will never accept the plebs saying no to their jets at Billy Bishop airport zombie idea. It will rise from the dead in September after the Beaches by-election, or next yr, or 10 yrs from now. Get those NO JETS TO signs back up Toronto. @juliedabrusin.bsky.social @mark-carney.bsky.social

Prime Minister Mark Carney has declined to rule out ever having commuter jets fly into Billy Bishop airport, but said his government is focused on improving Toronto’s transport network in other ways — including an expansion at Pearson airport and construction of the Alto high speed rail line.

Appearing Wednesday in Scarborough, Carney spoke for the first time about his government’s decision to scuttle Premier Doug Ford‘s dream of an expanded airport on the waterfront.

But while he stressed criteria for safety upgrades at Billy Bishop that his government supports, along with standards to limit noise and protect the environment, the prime minister would not rule out commuter jets using the airport in the future.

“Forever is a long time,” Carney said. “But let’s make it clear, it’s a small part of a much bigger puzzle.”

Temperatures are up, the forest are burning, & the skies are choked with smoke. "Most of us have probably accepted that fact. What other option is there?" Reducing & eliminating fossil fuel consumption? That's wizardry not worth of mention to the @theglobeandmail.com editorial squad & ownership.

Text from The Globe & Mail editorial hilariously obscuring the reason for the fire and smoke which is its subect:

If it only happened once, or once every few years, it might not be this way. The sight of smoke-filled skies would still be alarming, and there would still be grave concern for communities under immediate threat. But the smoke could more easily be dispelled from people’s minds if it was an aberration.

The regularity of the phenomenon in huge swaths of the country is what makes it so much harder to contend with. It is a certainty now that every year, without exception, at some point, this will be a part of summer for many Canadians.

Smoke in the sky may last only a few days, but before it clears, there is smoke in the sky someplace else, whether it is in another province or across the ocean in France.

However long it may last, and wherever it may appear, it has become a defining part of summer. And not just these past few years but perhaps indefinitely in to the future.

Most of us have probably accepted that fact. What other option is there? So it gets rationalized. It’s only a few days. The wind will come and skies will clear. Let’s hope for rain. Let’s hope communities are saved. Let’s do our best to keep on doing those summer activities that were planned anyways.

But when that smell is in the air, when that doomsday sun is in the sky, the carefree feeling that summer once was, that feeling is gone.

This is genuinely astonishing: a piece by the Globe and Mail’s editorial board lamenting the “new normal” of wildfires and summer smoke and no mention whatsoever of a) climate change, or b) the burning of fossil fuels that causes it. #cdnpoli www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/edit...

Removing automated speed cameras has perhaps been Doug Ford's most "successful" act as Premier. Ford wanted drivers to be able to speed dangerously (especially through school zones) without being ticketed, and the data is crystal clear that he achieved that goal! Promises made, promises kept!

Nine months later, the impact is apparent: Outlawing Ontario’s speed safety cameras has triggered an explosion of urban speeding.

Officials in cities like Toronto, Ottawa and Guelph are reporting steep increases in drivers exceeding posted limits, often by more than 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) per hour. It’s too early to know whether the surge of speeding is also causing additional crashes and deaths, but anxieties are rising. Liraz Fridman, Guelph’s road safety supervisor, said that residents have warned her that “we have people using these streets as a racetrack.”

A story of cause and effect: Last November, Ontario banned cities from using speed safety cameras to issue tickets. Reckless speeding immediately surged in Toronto, Ottawa, Guelph, and cities throughout the province. A 🧵 about my latest in Bloomberg (gift link)

Hello Canada. We can rightly point out these fascist American genital inspectors have lost their freaking minds but it's coming soon to a province near you. The Canadian brained-rotted far right takes all of its cues from the US fever swamps & will try to do exactly the same thing to your kids.

An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

The Campaign to Force Genital Exams on Girl Athletes Soon Washington State could require sex-verification tests for those playing sports in schools.
