Much as I absolutely loathe the ABC, I feel that things would be a whole lot easier if there were municipal political parties in Seattle.
The trades are important, but this isn't out of a genuine desire to do good for our society - this kind of policy is brought to you by people that hate educated people, don't want to pay for schools, want to break unions, and govern by vibes only.

I'd be interested in understanding from lawyers whether this will depress business trips to the US even further. From personal experience, I know that other visa applications are down so much that some legal aid services are downsizing.

Political campaign consulting is a major culprit with this type of situation, especially those consultants that want to "blow up the way Democrats run campaigns" by... getting oppo research and sitting on it.

A reinvention of the US federal government should involve developing a large multiparty parliamentary legislature governing through coalitions.
Max Berger@maxberger.bsky.social · 4w agoIf the United States has multiple political parties that actually controlled who could serve as their nominee, we would all be less dependent on the whims and weaknesses of individual leaders. Our political system is incredibly individualizing—we have extremely weak parties and tons of veto points.
While this would be a disaster regardless of scale, this story is just one of many where candidates are platformed not because they would actually be good in the office but because they play well to donors that send money based on vibes and PR.

I think it's very difficult to understate what impact a bad slate of recommendations of the SECB seemingly tainted by bias would do to The Stranger. The whole AMR scandal a year and a half ago was bad even though there was no way that the SECB would ever recommend her opponent...

This is aligned with how people from NA go to Europe and come back marveling that you can walk everywhere. You can have parties and street life like this all the time, and you don't even need a criminal enterprise to provide the reason.

Vancouver has been made unlivable by residents of single-family homes that pay far less in taxes and pull development cost charges from new development to sustain their infrastructure.
