We (Thom van Dooren, Julia Kindt, @zoesadokierski.bsky.social and myself) recently launched the Animal Tales project at Chau Chak Wing Museum exploring storytelling with the many animals (big and small) within the museums displayed collection. a big thanks to all of the story tellers involved!
Want to travel into the captivating worlds of animals? A talented group of storytellers from the University of Sydney and University of Technology Sydney have created an interactive animal trail to cultivate a deeper appreciation for some of the remarkable creatures that we share this planet with.
How do we speak *with* rather than *for* our more-than-human kin? The UTS Visualisation Institute's Multispecies storytelling event - in conjunction with the @seisydney.bsky.social and the 'Storytelling for Lost and Threatened Places' symposium. events.humanitix.com/multispecies...

This is awesome. Just like us, older birds sing hits from when they were young www.theguardian.com/science/2025...
Dear Google, this is _not_ a Noisy Miner, and nowhere on their website does the Australian Museum suggest so. Ongoing #enshittification
Bird nests made from anti-bird spikes?! 🤯 Hi, I'm a nest researcher 👋 and new here on BlueSky, sharing the craziest #bird nests I've ever found. 👀 Today, I’m sharing my discovery of rebellious birds that build nests out of anti-bird spikes. And honestly, it's like telling a joke... A thread. 🧵
If we time-traveled back 30 million years, we would see Pelicans we recognise as Pelicans! #bird #birds #wip #designResearch #moreThanHuman #storyTelling
Okay I have some possibly surprising (for me) thoughts about how this could be non-awful. I worked on an Encyclopaedia Britannica modernisation project in 1999/2000, when we put the Encyclopaedia on the Internet. As was the vogue at the time, we made a "knowledge portal".
Excuse me while I run in circles screaming in horror.
Interesting article on birdsong & human language to share this week. It’s work that could lead to understanding the brain, gene therapy & differences in speech & language - dysphasia. 🧵 www.quantamagazine.org/what-can-bir...
What Can Birdsong Teach Us About Human Language? | Quanta Magazine
We often consider spoken language to be a feature that distinguishes humans from other forms of animal life. Brain research, however, suggests that other creatures — including certain birds — share so...

Up and running - “Twice, again: Virentis” (UTS building 1)
Lots of great panels at this (free) conference including a keynote from Angie Abdilla. I have a new work showing in the associated exhibition & will be running a #criticalAI workshop with Monica Monin on the Friday.
I’ll be speaking on AI, creative practice and ‘our’ methodological obligations at Hacking Visual Cultures December 4-6 in Sydney. No cost registration. artechlaw.org/hacking-visu...
Four more nudibranchs from #Humboldt tide pools for #Nudivember. I added alt text to the images, but it's my first try and I'd appreciate any feedback on how to make it better.
