En Plein Air 29 - 'Snow Lane' - check andycropper.art/paintings A fascinating road in a very old part of Sheffield. You can feel history seeping out of the bricks, and the ghosts of all those people that have walked this lane over the centuries.

A painter of night-time cityscapes and landscapes with uncanny atmospheres of eerie uncertainty. Sheffield, UK My 'link in bio' π https://bio.site/andycropperart Husband to Nigel π¬ https://bsky.app/profile/sheffcitynigel.bsky.social
Tonight is a bit of a cooler, chillier one. I'm sat looking at this characterful gate, with the lights of the apartment blocks behind. An interesting contrast of the old with the new. Sitting on Morpeth Street looking onto Shepherd Street

one of the things I love about watching others make art is the physical aspect of mental planning; the hand movements practicing a stroke, making invisible marks & measurements, before deciding what goes next. I do it too, but not everyone does. not sure if it's learned or automatic, maybe both.
I've been out doing my thing again, this time on Snow Street, Sheffield. An intriguing, old, windy street in the heart of the city

En Plein Air 28 - 'Block' - check andycropper.art/paintings Another painting from Shepherd Street, this time looking at an enigmatic husk of a building with a concrete core. When was it made? What did it used to be?.I have no idea π

An incredibly enigmatic and hauntological moment tonight. I have no idea what this building is that's soon to be demolished, but its presence is absolutely phenomenal. Hope I can do it justice. Doncaster Road, Furnace Hill, Sheffield
Record Marples Tools. That demolition notice has been there a few years now, often wondered if they're just waiting for nature to take its course..

Newly added to my website; 'Early Morning Glow', 2026. See andycropper.art/paintings Really pleased with how this one's come out. An incredibly subtle painting but absolutely worth it. A glimpse of Sheffieldβs Velocity Tower as seen from Woodhead Rd.
En Plein Air 25 - 'Netherthorpe Road View' andycropper.art/paintings for availability So different to last night. I loved painting this. This is one of the busiest roads into and out of Sheffield, and pollution-wise you can tell. My throat after several hours of breathing there was hoarse as hell.
Out on Netherthorpe Rd looking up towards the university roundabout near Shalesmore. If you look very closely youβll see I'm using red biro for my sketching in *gasp* I left my blue pencil at home ... doh

En Plein Air 24 - 'That Night' check andycropper.art/paintings A difficult night. I've wanted to paint Loxley Works on Kiln Street for a time and thought I'd give it a go. I wish I hadn't. This painting feels like it's more about what happened outside of the painting rather than what was in it.
