Just finished Supremacy by Parmy Olson. It is an eye-opening look at how AI went from trying to save the world to just chasing corporate profits. Altman and Hassabis set out with noble ideals, but compute costs forced both into the arms of Big Tech. Market dominance wins out. 📚 #BookSky

Two nights in Manchester for work. Mostly long hours, but managed to squeeze in a pint in the new St Johns area at Stables Tavern and an outside bar on the green, plus a chippy and a pint at Cask. Happy to home now though. #BskyBeer

I'm all for clever writing, but this sentence in my new book feels like dense jargon for a simple idea: "The contemporary situation thus presents a recalcitrant hybrid, difficult to relate to historical exempla" Translation: "The current situation is a messy mix with no clear precedents' #Booksky

A masterpiece that perfectly pairs monumental scale with deep, emotional heart. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is flawless filmmaking - so stunning that I’m tempted to never watch it again just to preserve the absolute perfection of that first viewing. 🎥🎬

American chicken shops have popped up all over Manchester and I mostly ignored them. But then I found out Dave's Hot Chicken has X-Men 97 figures, so in I popped. You know what? The chicken was actually decent.

The ultimate post-World Cup pick-me-up. Proper American-style biscuits and fried chicken from Cardinal Rule, based out of Northern Monk Refectory in the Northern Quarter.

First time at Leeds Dock and it felt like a holiday in the sun. We were there to visit Piglove by the River taproom. What a cool venue, especially on a sunny day.#BskyBeer

Lego is slowly working through my gaming history. First the Gameboy, now the Sega Mega Drive, and rumours of a PS1 next. Just missing a SNES now . An Amstrad 464 Plus might be too much to ask for, though. 🕹️

Combining two of my favourite things: craft beer and reading. This collaboration between Beak Brewery and Faber & Faber includes a snippet of the book I Want You to Be Happy by Jem Calder right on the can. #BskyBeer #booksky

Passed the Crown Street Taps in Leeds plenty of times on the way to the train, but yesterday I finally dropped in. It's a smart little place by Turning Tides Brewery with a good tap list and a great atmosphere. Well worth a look if you're passing by. #Bskybeer

An interesting read in a fascinating period of history. Despite the title, The Mongol Storm is less about the Mongols themselves and more about the Near East civilisations that bore the brunt of it. Not what I expected going in, but well worth a look #history #booksky

Since I was born in 1982, I have lived under 10 prime ministers. The first five lasted a combined 27 years and 11 months. The next five managed just 13 years and 11 months between them. And to think we used to laugh at Italian politics. We need to chill.

There is always one. Supplied a World Cup chart for the office and someone is currently filling it out while entirely ignoring the glaringly obvious grey boxes meant for the scores. Why do I bother?

A Sunday walk in the hills above Hebden Bridge, followed by a pint stop in Heptonstall. Wasn't expecting to find Pardál on draught up here. It is a rare treat to find Budweiser Budvar's pale lager poured fresh in a small countryside pub. #BskyBeer

Me: I probably won't pay too much attention to this World Cup. The timings are rubbish, it's too corporate, and FIFA... meh. Also me: buys four separate tournament guides and a sticker album

Built in 1924 by trade unions, the Hebden Bridge Trades Club is a socialist cooperative and iconic music venue. Caught it here in the perfect light—a proper valley institution keeping its radical roots and live music scene alive.

Guilty of buying bad beer for the excellent can art again. This one hits the nostalgia spot: Italia 90 was the first World Cup I remember, and Korea/Japan 2002 was the first one where I could legally drink watching the games. Style over substance wins out sgain. 🍻 #bskybeer

Spent the day weeding a small patch of land opposite the yard. Took advantage of the day off, and now these hazy pale ales are very well earned. Cheers to a productive afternoon. #BskyBeer

Open windows on sunny days are great until a fly gets in. You spend twenty minutes chasing it, waving a tea towel and failing to trap it in a glass. By the end, you’ve broken a sweat and are hotter than if you were sitting directly in the sun. Warm weather is here and I hate these flies.
