Retired nurse academic, Corby Town Councillor 🌹, playing out the rest of my time on golf courses, discovering new beers, walking our beautiful county, supporting LFC, Northampton Saints, Steelbacks, Vikings #Skol and advancing the cause of social justice
The weather was atrocious but that didn’t put off the crowds from attending the Summer show today at Rockingham Castle. A great event hosted by The Shire Horse Society. Magnificent animals. A damp but thoroughly enjoyable event.
In another varied and interesting day as Mayor of Corby I shall be at the Summer Show at Rockingham Castle supporting and enjoying all that’s best about the Shire Horse. The Shire Horse is of historical importance to our town. Photos to follow later today.
RIP Dolly. I love this album. They just complimented each other superbly. “Trio”.
“Welcome back my friend to the show that never ends” Finally back on the course 4 months after my knee replacement surgery. 9 holes played at Rutland Water GC this afternoon. No I’ll effects. The rehab is going to plan. 3 over par (39) not too shabby. Yes one of those balls on the green is mine ⛳️🏌️♂️👌
It might be the first weekend of the Football Premiership season but for me it’s still the cricket 🏏 season. Watching the County at Lancashire with @radders1962.bsky.social What a turnaround! Declaration made. game on. Enjoying a beer from my second favourite county. Buxton’s “Axe Edge” Derbyshire.
I attended a Dance Out at "The Star" Geddington. Several Morris Dance sides from Braybrooke, Kettering, Northampton and Corby Conspiracy . They adopted there name from the collective noun for Ravens. The Raven is a symbol of Corby. A large crowd were treated to an excellent set of dances.
Today I visited Maggie’s in Northampton. Maggie's centres are a network of drop-in centres across the United Kingdom and abroad that aim to help anyone who has been affected by cancer. They are welcoming environments. I toured the centre learning more about their vital work. Thanks for the invite.
I just knew we'd get this bollocks. Farage - like the Telegraph- doesn't want progress or anything to improve he just wants Britain to sit in a miserable slump in which he can holler constantly about "migrants" and drink pints in slow motion videos with people who pine for WW2.
Had great company on my walk today. Bear tried to convince me of the merits of The Hundred and I provided a running commentary about the history of our family and the Great Oakley environs. We eventually retired to the local hostelry for refreshments. A wonderful afternoon. Thank you 🐻
Yes I’ve watched countless versions of this on film and television but nothing beats reading the original book. And yes my bookmark is my entry ticket to the 2007 Open Championship at Carnoustie. Harrington won 🇮🇪 #booksky
Sometimes a classic is called for. #BskyBeer Enjoying this after another varied day supervising my final PhD student (making excellent progress) playing paw patrol with the youngest grandchild and smashing the informal Knights Lodge Monday Club quiz challenge. #NeverADullMoment 😀
On the menu today. The “Made With Many” Shazzam Corby Town Centre. A fantastic arts engagement event. It allowed us to speak to all generations in the town about their views and ideas about #PrideInPlace and #TownOfCulture2028 #Corby
Tropical weather calls for a tropical beer. Mango Jaipur from @thornbridge.bsky.social in Doc’s Bar. Have a great weekend everyone. #BskyBeer
My varied week as Mayor of Corby continues . Today I’m at the Savoy Cinema with children benefitting from free summer tickets funded by Corby Town Council #Spiderman and then off to a round table discussion as we advance to the second stage bid for Town of Culture 2028 #Corby #DeedsNotWords
An absolute belter of a CD given away with the latest edition of UNCUT magazine. Currently playing in Doc’s Bar. Excellent stuff.
Not a photograph you’d normally get on Oakley Road on a Tuesday afternoon. It’s closed again #BurstWaterPipes Thought I’d take advantage at the end of walk around the manor. Home now sampling my current favourite lager. Aptly named by @thornbridge.bsky.social 🇲🇽 with Lime 🍋🟩 and Salt. 👌
This is hitting the spot after another scorching day. “Tart” Sour with Galaxy Hops from @thornbridge.bsky.social #BskyBeer
A bit of XTC this morning steeling myself for a long day of Mayoral duties. National Play Day event followed by Corby Muslim Association Football Tournament and fundraiser. #DiverseCorby #ProudToRepresent
Up next. A wonderful collaboration between Arbor and @thornbridge.bsky.social “Root & Peak” Hazy IPA 7.1% Now I must concentrate on cooking supper. #BskyBeer #FridayBeers
Walk done, time for a beer. Welcoming back an old friend. “Pondera” West Coast IPA from @thornbridge.bsky.social #BskyBeer
Currently playing and up next. 1977/1981 respectively. #Thursdayvibes in Doc’s Bar. Benson, Clarke, Duke. Class. 👌
Since retiring I have immersed myself in reading for pleasure. No Academic board papers and fewer subject related research journal papers. Every so often I tackle a “classic”. So my friends the time has come to venture into this. I’ll see you on the other side! #BloomsDay
What a book. “The Match” Mark Frost. Cypress Point Golf Course 1956. Two amateurs Ward and Venturi take on Nelson and Hogan. It not only describes the game but more importantly shines a light on the characters, golf in that era, the outstanding course architecture and life. So good. Recommended.
