Just watched Odyssey and I am surprised at how well Nolan tells this story. I love how he decided to not show any gods in the film, how he depicted stories that we used to think funny as horrors, and Odysseus as heartbroken instead of a clever trickster. How wonderful!

My recent hyperfixation is autonomic nervous system. And I found this epic book that covers a wide range of topics on ANS. I wish all domains have a book like this
I’m recruiting two new PhD students to start in 2027, working with me on my program of research in quantitative psychopathology. I’ve put some information for interested students on my website: miriamkforbes.academic.ws Please share with anyone you know who might be interested!
Just read about how vestibular system is not just for balance and oculomotor processes, but also have functions for emotion regulation, social cognition, autonomic arousal regulation and many other functions. This may explain why vestibular inputs help regulate in a lot of autistic people!
I found an amazing book! The chapter of the embodied self written by Breanne Kearney & Dr. Ruth Lanius got me too excited that I cannot sleep...I wish I could do this kind of research so bad.
My CR box after only 1 day under the wildfire smoke weather (last Friday) -- with A/C off and windows shut closely.
Luna’s newly shed whisker has 3 roots and also multiple tiny strings made up to one! I’ve only seen human hair branching out at the end, but never the roots! What’s the explanation here? Curious
I have jumped through so many hoops, that now I understand better what makes a good undergraduate psychology program vs. a mediocre one. A good one helps you to succeed in future career; a mediocre one helps you to succeed in getting a diploma. Policies do make crucial differences #WritingBacklog
Recently I re-watched 2 TV shows, one American, the other Chinese / Hongkonese, and noticed the differences between how people see geniuses in these two cultures. Comparing Ned in Ted Lasso and General Han Xin in The Conqueror's Story (real historical figure), (1/5)
I recently realized that one of the most powerful tool to regulate a distressed nervous system may be love, and there are some relevant studies on similar topics. From this perspective, the reason why some people with BPD or trauma seek for love more intensely may be also due to a biological cause.
A terrible thing happened to me recently: I accidentally bought a mechanical keyboard...
One thing I learned about treatments for many mental disorders and possibly also for many chronic health conditions is that they are usually not perfect. I've seen people stuck at seeking a "better" treatment hoping to fully return to pre-condition(s) status or "like others", but only suffered more.
Talking with other undergrads in Western University's USRI cohort, suddenly an idea hits me: can acquired aphantasia be theorized as dissociation?
I got selected for the APA SUPER Fellowship! I can't express enough how excited and grateful I am for this opportunity, especially considering that I was struggling so much with my back injury last semester.
A few years ago: Don’t buy Chinese smart phones. They don’t come with Google services. Now: Buy Chinese phones. They don’t come with Google services.
This article, written by a cognitive neuroscientist, talks about how Gen AIs will introduce biases and affect your decisions, whether you are an expert or not. One experiment showed that the medical experts failed to find rare cancers with AI vs non-AI groups. www.thetransmitter.org/from-bench-t...
Why expertise won’t protect you from AI’s influence
When writing a grant or reasoning about a problem, AI can exert a subtle, often undetected bias, even when we’re doing our best to be aware of it.

Just have time to watch What We Do in the Shadows, and now I started to have this question, is Matt Berry HOT...?!!!

Sounds like the therapy app is not encrypted, so the messages were hijacked by this poor client's employer. Mental health service workers and providers MUST learn about data safety! And, more importantly, providers should really treat personal health information as confidential as one's SIN number!
"Jennifer Kamrass confessed her worries to her therapist: her marriage, her finances, and self-esteem... 2 years later, a transcript of every word Kamrass had typed to her psychologist using the app Talkspace was produced in court by her former employer." 🤬
You know what would be great? An app that looks like a dating app, but it's to find a bodydoubling partner and/or a study mate.

When you study cognitive psychology with an engineering background, things get so much easier. A linguistic model about brain oscillations decoding speech? Ah, Fourier transformation.
I have a wild hypothesis: autistic people can recognize other autistic people more accurately than most mental health professionals.
Writing about my special interests (Marsha Linehan and complex PTSD) with a warm purring kitty sleeping in my arms. Life is good ❤️🐈⬛❤️
Mental health professionals and students should not glorify trauma. People are resilient and they do recover, but even for those who turned out very well later, there are still long-term consequences they have to handle. They can be proud of self, but you shouldn't shovel this narrative to them.
This AI slop (youtu.be/gtnt84CDP-s?...) is so great, that I started to secretly wish someone generates an AI version of Harry Potter "played" by all trans celebrities.
