The largest blind spot in current financial oversight is the belief that financial oversight in the U.S. still exists, writes @angelawalch.substack.com https://www.notus.org/perspectives/what-is-the-largest-blind-spot-in-current-financial-oversight
🎙️Is this thing on?? I returned to the podcast world to talk power, protocols, & emergencies with the Governance Futures team. Hope you enjoy as much as I did recording it.

Yikes. Going through HS focus groups right now and one group of student's "one word to describe school" are back-to-back: Involved, Stressful, Invasive. 😩 "Stressful because you're measured in grades. And you always have to be here...then you're always thinking about being here."
Students overwhelmingly do not experience productive stress at school: "One middle school group alone mentioned 'anxiety' 11 times and 'stress' 15 times. Students at all levels frequently mentioned stress and anxiety impacting attendance, engagement, and performance in school."
There is NOTHING Trump or his administration can say or do to reduce economic uncertainty. So yesterday he said he’s not firing Powell. Whoop de do. As if this is a permanent state of affairs that one could base predictions on. Same with tariffs. Same with alliances. Same with everything.
I wrote a paper in January 2012 about how to deal with the risk of a US dollar collapse. It seems relevant now, so here it is. An Application of the Catastrophic Harm Precautionary Principle to the Risk of a US Dollar Collapse
US companies are screwed. No one will trust their products - either digital or physical - since they must do whatever the administration says or face its wrath. (Is there a kill switch?) No one will *want* to support US businesses because America has become an untrustworthy rogue state.
I think we have passed the point of no return in salvaging the US & existing world order. (At some point, I can lay out all the reasons I think this, & yes, I recognize this sounds extreme.) What am I supposed to spend my time on if I think this is true? angelawalch.substack.com/p/what-to-do...
What To Do When the World is Falling Apart
Hell if I know

Wonder how much longer till international airspace agreements fall apart
What is happening now is that the US government is still bearing the name and rituals of its former self but there is no more ‘there’ there. It’s a ship of Theseus that is now misnamed and all predictions made about it having the characteristics of the USA are null and void.
The celebration of the destruction of civilization. What a thin line it was.
Historically, how popular are autocracies as a place to immigrate to?
What happens when you unplug a government? Will it turn on again if you want it to? Do you risk losing anything if you forgot to hit ‘save’ before you unplugged it?
If there is room for ideology critique, it needs to be turned 180°, at the people they seek to provoke, to understand why they are susceptible to it.
Thinking about holiday protocols and how they are a source of panic…. no Christmas lights up yet means people who drive by CAN SEE my failure to follow the protocol…. SHAME
It's Protocoliday Season! Only 30 more days till Protocoliday Eve!
Nuanced take from @rozfoster.bsky.social on the Xodus to Blue Sky & the background forces that herd us into like with like. I’m new to Bluesky, so am anxious to see whether we form an echo chamber or a place to share and debate ideas.
It’s affecting our thought & behavior in ways that may make us malleable to others if we’re not conscious of how we’re being compelled to think & behave. For a primer on how data science may be more powerful than you think, read this: shorturl.at/mRFnt (3/3) ♾️
Do you find yourself moving in & out of groups where you’ve felt *obliged* to adhere to rules that weren't your own? @angelawalch.substack.com wrote a wonderfully clarifying & succinct paper on this, “The Protocol System Experience." Have a look: shorturl.at/GS7qO (1/3) ⬇️
The Protocol System Experience
A protocol system emerges when a group of people acts in relation to a protocol (a set of rules, laws, norms, standards, traditions, etc). This broad category includes nations, religions, professions,...

Just reread Animal Farm so I could talk about it with my daughter and wow does it nail the trajectory of crypto. “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, & from man to pig, & from pig to man again; but it already was impossible to say which was which.”

The corruption at SCOTUS is so devastating that I don't understand how the court continues.
Wait, so no one here has to know I was a lawyer/academic before?
What's the best way to find the most interesting people here? I feel adrift...
