We were a two-car family for about a month while we waited for one of them to sell. We didn’t take advantage of it even once and it was more annoying than anything. Happy that we’re back down to one and glad to have the affirmation that one is plenty! *sentiments may change when teen gets a licence.

There’s a lot of negativity around the live action Moana and I get it, but I took 2 tween girls who really wanted to see it, we all wore flower leis, I shut out the critical voices in my head, and we had a great time.

I think I’ll go see The Odyssey this week, but already dreading the runtime. Why are intermissions for movies not a thing? Bring me back to 1997 when the Titanic film reel couldn’t fit on the projector in my small town theatre, so it had to be shown in 2 parts.

Last 2 weeks it was all about wearing as little clothing as possible while biking. Tomorrow morning I think I’ll be searching for gloves and an earband!

After posting on the community FB page, I received an apology letter. I’m still confused how this happened, but the person says they talked to “a lady near the tree” who told them they could pick. A weird situation, but the apology was heartfelt and I’m choosing to call it a misunderstanding.

Things my kids have had to deal with in their childhood that I did not: A global pandemic, swimming plans being derailed by algae blooms, pokey zebra muscles on the beach, tornado warnings, vacation plans regularly being readjusted or cancelled due to wildfires.

Had to get new licence plates, so now my Manitoba park pass is invalid 🤦🏼‍♀️. Not the worst thing to pay another $45, but still annoying. The park pass system is even more unfair to people who don’t own a personal vehicle.

Update: it looks like this has been at least partially addressed, the path was a lot better this afternoon.

The gravel path along the river from Osborne to Main has for some reason been rolled with a knobbed construction roller, which has turned it into an infinitely bumpy mess, and churned up piles of 2-3" rocks. I have reported to 311. If this is on your ride, please do the same. It's pretty dangerous.

Oh don’t mind me, just heading out for errands in 32 degree heat dressed in pants and a sweater because I expect that every indoor place I enter will have their a/c set to approximately refrigerator temperature.

A lesson learned after having no option but to drive through the high risk fire area in northern Ontario to make it home: bringing passports along even when travelling domestically isn’t a bad idea. If we had, we could have re-routed through the US.

Many people with cars want to repress acknowledging the logic that car-ownership is not just convenient and pleasant but actually essential for any kind of good life is pretty dehumanizing to people who medically cannot drive, and results in us receiving significant condescension and disregard

Nobody disputes that having access to a car in a car-dominated society is good. It gives one access to jobs, healthcare, food, education, social opportunities and more. All we're asking is for people to go one step deeper and ask why access to such basic rights requires buying and operating a car.

I will be breathing a big sigh of relief in a little while, when we are west of the fire.

The good coffee place has bad bagels and the good bagel place has bad coffee. This is quite the dilemma. 🤨

To view my kids’ report cards, I have to log in to various portals to which I can never remember the username nor password nor where to find the document. What I wouldn’t give for a good old-fashioned paper print-out tucked into their backpack.

How can a person possibly be expected to clean their kitchen when the weather is this nice and their comfy reading spot is perfectly in the shade and they are in the middle of a book by one of their favourite authors?

I happened to find myself riding in a line of about 10 cyclists (just regular rush-hour bike traffic in the Garry St. bike lane) and heard a little child exclaim from their stroller: “It’s a bike parade!” 🥰

I was in my Country Music Era from about 2003-2008, which is really unfortunate, because as I bike home on a Friday the words inevitably playing in my head are “weekend’s here, good god almighty, baby let’s get drunk and be somebody”.

Camping report: The birds started singing at 4:20 am on June 14 and I remain unconvinced that standard time all year is a good idea.

Another key one: shopping at the local Co-op with my mom after swimming lessons, shivering in a giant t-shirt over my wet bathing suit. Picking out a treat that was always either a Flintstone Push-Up or a Fun Dip.

Fund transit! This is not a rare occurrence. It should not be a mystery why ridership is low. My kid has been standing at the stop for 20 minutes.

I definitely would take the batteries out of my smoke detector if it kept going off when the household down the block burnt their toast. Alert fatigue is real and dangerous and it is totally valid to want increased accuracy for tornado alerts.

Counterpoint: expecting absolutely pinpoint accuracy and crystal ball foreknowledge of meteorological behaviour is incredibly foolish and ignorant, especially as we proceed into the climate disaster era. Do these people take the batteries out of their smoke detectors, too?

People who rely on transit make choices about where to live, work, and send their kids to daycare and school based on bus routes. I believe the significance of this was greatly underestimated when projecting how Winnipegers would respond to the route overhaul.
