On this day in 1858, Franz Uri Boas was born to become the Father of American Anthropology, which is a pretty good trick given he earned his PhD in physics. Nonetheless, Boas was a giant, debunking racially biased belief systems while developing cultural relativism. #OTD

On this day in 1958, Jennifer Jane Saunders was born to create comic characters, first with Dawn French in French and Saunders, a sort of distaff response to Fry & Laurie, and then as Patsy Stone's BFF/boozing buddy Edina Monsoon. Whenever she turns up I can't stop laughing. #OTD

On this day & in this room, in 1776, the Second Continental Congress passed Richard Henry Lee's Resolution for Independence, declaring the 13 colonies assembled free & independent states. John Adams said the day would go down in history, but the day on the Declaration won. #OTD
