Lead spokesperson for the foreign affairs and security policy of the #EU @kajakallas @eu_eeas @EU_Commission Following & RT not necessarily endorsement

🇷🇺’s threat to foreign citizens & diplomats to leave Kyiv is an unacceptable escalation. @eu_eeas summoned the Chargé d'Affairs, calling to stop hitting civilians & 🇷🇺 to engage in genuine peace talks starting with a full and unconditional ceasefire. @EUDelegationUA stays in Kyiv.

The EU notes reports that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been transferred to house arrest. We call for full respect of her physical and mental wellbeing, regular access to family and legal counsel, and reiterate our demand for her full release and of all remaining political prisoners.

Myanmar: The 🇪🇺 welcomes the announcement of the release of U Win Myint and other political prisoners, and the commutation of several death sentences. We continue to demand the unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained persons, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

DPRK: The launch of multiple ballistic missiles raises military tensions, jeopardises regional security and violates UN Security Council resolutions. We urge the DPRK to comply with its international obligations and return to diplomacy.

DPRK: Yesterday’s launch of ballistic missiles is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions that raises tensions in the region. The EU reiterates its call on the DPRK to step away from escalation and instead re-engage in diplomacy.

On the day of the EU-UK Cyber Dialogue, the EU stands with the UK in its response to cyberattacks carried out by China-based companies. We reaffirm our strong commitment to prevent, deter and respond to malicious cyber behaviour.

Hong Kong: We are deeply saddened by the loss of life in the Tai Po fire tragedy in Hong Kong. Our heartfelt thoughts are with the victims, their families and all those affected. The EU stands in solidarity with the people of Hong Kong at this difficult time

Ukraine: A shameful example of Russia's “peace” intentions. Another reckless and cynical attack targeted substations that power Khmelnytskyi & Rivne nuclear plants. 🇷🇺 is willing to risk a nuclear disaster to inflict more suffering. Ukraine is not alone. Our support continues.

Ukrainian journalist Olena Hubanova and cameraman Yevhen Karmazin were killed by a RU drone yesterday. They reported from the front lines since day one. RU has committed over 850 crimes against the press. There will be accountability.

DPRK: The EU condemns the recent launch of several ballistic missiles which violates UN Security Council resolutions. The DPRK must cease all illegal actions threatening peace & security. The EU urges the DPRK to return to diplomacy and comply with its international obligations.

Myanmar: junta airstrikes in Sagaing killed over 40 people, incl. civilians and children, who gathered for the Buddhist Festival of Light. This is another attack by the Myanmar military against those it claims to protect. Civilians must never be a target. The killing must end.

Reports that at least 75 civilians were killed by the RSF in a mosque in El Fasher in Sudan are extremely alarming. The EU calls again for an immediate halt to all fighting in the city as proposed by UNSCR 2736 and demands access for humanitarian aid into El Fasher.

Belarus: The recent releases of political prisoners, including EU citizens, are a positive step. Yet the regime must immediately reveal the fate and location of opposition leader Mikalai Statkevich — who refused forced exile — and free all political prisoners unconditionally

Russia: Alexei Gorinov has been in solitary confinement for the 5th time. He has a chronic lung disease. In his transfer to Novosibirsk, signs of tuberculosis were detected. Such a long solitary confinement is life-threatening. We call on RU to release all political prisoners.

Belarus: Another life stolen by Lukashenka’s regime. Andrei Padniabenny, 36, is the 9th political prisoner to die in jail since 2020. 1,200 remain imprisoned in inhumane conditions. Lukashenka’s regime must be held accountable

The EU calls for sustained efforts by Cambodia and Thailand to implement the ceasefire agreement. Both sides must respect international law and avoid any escalatory actions. We stand with @MYasean2025 in its efforts to foster lasting peace and stability

Russia: 🇷🇺 Supreme Court upheld the absurd prison sentencing of Zhenya Berkovich and Svetlana Petriychuk for "justifying terrorism" for staging a play, which speaks against terrorism. Both artists and all other political prisoners must be immediately and unconditionally released.

🇪🇺EU HRVP @kajakallas will convene an extraordinary meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers tomorrow, 11 August, at 4 p.m. via video link. The agenda will include Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the current situation in the Middle East.
