Very welcome news on ending the IPP injustice. After almost two decades of battling the prison system in some cases, I hope families across the country can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I thank the new Prime Minister for taking a decisive and positive step towards justice

Andy Burnham pledges to end 'injustice' of Imprisonment for Public Protection orders

Shipley’s Labour MP Anna Dixon, who has long been campaigning against IPPs, said this was “extremely welcome”.

The River Aire and the Wharfe don't belong to Yorkshire Water - they belong to us. It is an outrage that YW continues to pollute our rivers, all while hiking bills for consumers. The only way to fix this crisis is to make it easier for failing water companies to be brought into public control.

I am angered by Yorkshire Water’s continued deteriorating performance. The state of our local rivers is deeply concerning, and I am urging the EA to act urgently. I will keep standing up to YW and making the case for bringing failing water companies into public control for as long as it takes.

Environment Agency told to probe pollution in River Wharfe and Aire

Anna Dixon, the Shipley MP, wrote to chief executive Philip Duffy after Yorkshire Water admitted that it was responsible for 260 pollution incidents across the region in the last financial year - a 72...

I am proud to have officially nominated Andy Burnham as the next Leader of the Labour Party. He has a strong record of delivery in Greater Manchester, extensive experience working at the top of government, and has the vision needed to unite Labour and the country around his message of hope.

13 serious pollution incidents last year, the same number as the previous year, show Yorkshire Water has learned nothing and changed nothing. If a company cannot show sustained improvement, the public should not be trapped indefinitely as customers of an operator that fails them at every turn.

It’s time to crack on with delivering our manifesto pledges, including building the National Care Service. I’ve been fighting to improve this system throughout my career, and I’ll be doing everything I can to ensure the new Leader of the Labour Party makes it a top priority.

We must now take this opportunity to reenergise this government. In particular, I will be working as hard as possible to push for the creation of the National Care Service to be at the top of Labour’s priorities for the rest of this Parliament.

I strongly support today’s announcement of a social media ban for under-16s. Just as tobacco is regulated to protect young people, social media platforms must face meaningful accountability. I hope this moment can serve as a catalyst to rethink our relationship with social media more broadly.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of David Hockney. He was a proud Bradfordian and a towering figure in contemporary art. Our city has today lost one of its greatest treasures, but his paintings will live on to inspire future generations. Thank you, David.

Reform’s plan to effectively scrap Bradford’s Clean Air Zone is premature and reckless. Evidence shows the CAZ has improved air quality and cut GP appointments for breathing issues by 600 per month. Scrapping it now would be a public health mistake our children's generation will pay for.

I have called on the government to recognise the impact social media is having on our young people as a public health emergency. We need urgent action to protect our kids online, and to tackle the addictive algorithms the big tech companies use to exploit people of all ages.

The health and wellbeing all our amazing unpaid carers must be supported. The government’s Health Bill is a comprehensive piece of legislation and I welcome many of its measures, but we must to go further. Our ambitions must be bold, our delivery must be rapid, and our NHS must be renewed.

77% of people in Bradford rejected the party that now leads our council. Reform spreads divisiveness by telling people that Britain is broken while having no idea or plan for how to fix it. Our city deserves better, and I will be hard at work in the coming months to hold them to account.

'Reform UK spreads divisiveness - our city deserves better' says Shipley MP

The local elections were the loudest wake-up call we could have received. If we want voters to have faith in politics again, we need a system that can truly reflect their views. I call on all MPs to show that we are ready to be much more radical in reforming our elections.

I'm a Labour MP - two-party politics is dead so we need a new voting system: Anna Dixon

The dust has finally settled after the local elections in Yorkshire, with councillors new and old taking their seats. There are differing views about why voters rejected the traditional parties, but c...

The old way of politics is finished. I’m proud to be one of the MPs backing the introduction of a proportional representation system. I’ve been campaigning for this for over 30 years, but the need for a system that makes every vote matter is more urgent than ever.

Proud to have put my name to this. Two party politics is over and we need a new electoral system that reflects that reality👇

🔥 Westminster's First Past the Post system is broken and unfair. 🌹 Today, 66 Labour MPs have signed an amendment, led by @alexsobel.co.uk, to mend it. 👇 Let’s make sure the “Representation or the People Bill” does what it says on the tin. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

We CANNOT let private water companies profit from polluting our rivers. I welcome the Clean Water Bill, which will take forward much of the reform the sector needs. But I am concerned that, without addressing the sector's financial failings, we will only be perpetuating a broken system.

Clean rivers, fair bills and a water system run in the public interest should not be too much to ask for. It’s time for the government to be radical and build a model with fairness, accountability, and environmental protection at its core. It’s time to take back control of our water.

It’s time for a water system that puts the public first

Who is our water system really designed to serve? If you ask my constituents in Shipley, they will give you a typically straight Yorkshire answer - not us.

As we begin a new session of Parliament, I am urging this government to be much bolder and more ambitious. Those on the Front Bench must now ensure that, as the bills set out by the King today are introduced, they go as far and as fast as possible to deliver the change we promised.
