Really important to acknowledge that people can be rehabilitated and deradicalised from extremism. We should be supportive of that and give people a chance to rebuild their lives. But those people should not be allowed to stand for public office as a councillor or MP.

One of the issues that we will have with AI and the associated risks is exactly this. If you never learn to do something yourself, you can't provide any level of scrutiny, can't fix it if it goes wrong and you become out of the loop rather than in or on it. For any level of resilience you need in/on

Every now and again, London prices still really shock me. Guess how much I paid for a 250ml can of Appletiser in a London theatre last night? (I'm caveating this with, I don't mind paying more than elsewhere to support theatres making money, but i was still shocked)

I try not to get into arguments with people on the Internet, life's too short, but seeing some create and post a whole video describing St Fagans museum "disneyfication of Welsh heritage" has really annoyed me. Not all museum can be everything to everyone, but St Fagans is an incredible place.

Women's Rights Network/Sex Matters took Feile to court to have their event reinstated. It was not reinstated. The two statements released after an agreement was reached give two very different impressions of what happened today in Belfast's High Court.

Today’s outcome is a vindication of Féile’s position in standing up for those who are marginalised. Féile’s decision to withdraw this event from our programme stands. The agenda of many of those who involved themselves in this issue was clear for all to see. Many of the very same people line up every year to attack Féile at every turn, to attempt to damage Féile, and to attack the West Belfast community. They will never succeed. Féile an Phobail will continue to provide a voice for the marginalised, and we are looking forward to welcoming the world to West Belfast to join with us to celebrate Ireland’s biggest community festival. Féile Abú!Statement from Women’s Rights Network Northern Ireland WRN NI is delighted to have reached an agreement with Féile an Phobail which brings the current legal proceedings to an end. The Judge congratulated the parties today, saying they both deserved credit for reaching a resolution in this difficult domain involving emotive issues. Féile has agreed to meet with WRN NI to explore and discuss our potential participation in future Féile events, and we warmly welcome the opportunity for continued engagement. Our women live, work, volunteer and support their communities across Northern Ireland. Our priority has always been to bring conversations about women’s sex-based rights into our festivals, workplaces, homes and communities, and to create spaces where women can come together and discuss the rights that affect their lives. We have done that, and we are immensely grateful for the support we have received over the past week, both publicly and privately. We hope this agreement marks the beginning of constructive engagement and greater opportunities for women’s voices and perspectives to be heard. Our work continues. We look forward to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI) Judicial Review later this year, where WRN NI will continue advocating for women’s sex-based rights and for the safety, privacy and dignity of women and girls across Northern Ireland. An underreported part of UK Transphobe Lawfare™ is that when they lose, they just... say they won. For all the regrettable sway they do have in courts/govt etc, their real power is in the press. So if they lose, they just pretend they didn't and their press friends print the lie. It's ubiquitous.

Abusive men don't need dirt on others to be protected, it is completely normal for that to be the case. Add in rich and famous in a country which is highly litigious and it's completely unsurprising nothing has been done.

Having worked both for regulators and regulated businesses I can say, 100%, regulation of businesses and markets is good. And even if there are some drawbacks, the overwhelming positive outcome from regulation more than makes up for that.

Among the worst ideas floating around is that "the free market" will naturally achieve desirable results for society. No, it won't, not even in theory, much less in practice. Markets don't optimize "good for society" unless you make them.

People in Europe are experiencing wildfires in places and at scale that most people have never experienced. Some really good advice in this thread. Also, I cannot stress enough how much everyone should have an emergency bag. Loads of info online on what to put in it, but you should have one.

i've outrun more than a few wildfires in my time and i thought of typing up some advice on doing that but honestly what can i even say because. this many wildfires in regions that do not normally get wildfires like this is a direct result of bad policies and failure to act on climate change.
