🌹Labour's NEC: after 25 years I’m standing down, and supporting loyal, energetic candidates who go beyond the old factions: Cat Arnold, current member & vice-chair for women; Jovan Owusu-Nepaul, Clacton candidate in 2024; and Kerry Postlewhite, campaigner and internationalist. Please vote for them🌹

I have decided to not seek re-election to Labour's NEC – after 24 years it’s time for future generations to see the party through the next general election and beyond, so I’ll leave the NEC in September. Thank you for all your support in good and in difficult times.

I'm voting for Christina McAnea as UNISON's general secretary. I served on the LabourLink committee alongside Angela Rayner for many years, and on Labour's NEC I've seen UNISON's influence in shaping the biggest package of workers' rights in a generation. It's always better to be in the room.

Urgent deputy leader update: some CLPs told they must have 5% members at nomination meeting. Not required in 2020 nor agreed by procedures cttee. Because GC delegate nominations not allowed, challenging esp for large CLPs esp in person esp at short notice/no warning. One already disqualified.

“UNISON joins the International trade union movement in condemning the atrocities that take place daily in Gaza and Palestine” There must be an ‘immediate and permanent ceasefire’. Christina McAnea, London rally for Palestine

🌹Thanks to all for working so hard, congratulations to winners, commiserations to those who lost despite best efforts. Labour's NEC meets Tuesday 20 May - please send feedback from elections in your area plus lessons for Wales, Scotland, English mayors/councils in 2026 to annblack50@btinternet.com 🌹

Wishing health and happiness to all, and working for a successful Labour government in 2025. NEC and national policy forum meetings resume in January - please post messages here, or send to annblack50@btinternet.com 🌹 🌹 🌹 Previous reports at www.annblack.co.uk

Also Keir Starmer gave up a family holiday in August so he could be here at home dealing with the riots. Not something Boris Johnson would have done.

💥 Really welcome to see this passed by MPs - with strong support from the Labour benches 🙏 Congratulations and thank you to every Labour MP who voted for Proportional Representation today 💪 The government must listen to MPs and the public - and launch a National Commission for Electoral Reform

💥 Really pleased that MPs have PASSED the ‘10 Minute Rule’ motion from Sarah Olney MP in favour of Proportional Representation for parliamentary elections and local elections in England 🧵 1/3

The suggestion is that Musk’s relationship with Trump makes regulation of X far more difficult .. & thereby hangs our democracy. For our strength & democracy we have never needed to be closer to Europe. Elon Musk is attacking Britain. Former PMs are building ties on.ft.com/3Zi5tpF
