Wonderful Jennifer Montone was in Stockholm recently playing with the Swedish Radio Symphony and whilst there came across what she (very accurately in my opinion!) described as "fun quasi-horn statues". Aren't they great!
Isn't this striking and eye catching? This was a very generous gift from a talented young horn player - Kandil K. Mohamed - who I met recently. One of the details I love about this is the beautiful background which he explained was painted using tea!

I'm really happy to see the publication of "The Sound of Brass", the proceedings of the 2018 Fifth International Romantic Brass Symposium. This was a particularly thought provoking event to be involved in and I found my research for my contribution went in some particularly unforeseen directions!
The opening of Weber's Oberon is very well known to horn players but there's plenty of other exposed sections for us in this magical work - here's the denouement from Act III when Huon sounds the horn, enchanting his enemies into dance. Here's this bit in rehearsal last week.

Just returned from the final instalment of Les Boréades with A Nocte Temporis. Such a wondrous piece and a joy to perform (the horn parts encompassing brilliant exuberance, boisterous dances and tender yearning)- especially with such a great bunch of musicians.

I am totally in awe of Gabriella Ibarra - she has so many talents! Not only is she a top notch horn player, she's also a high level researcher, teacher, editor and ... has a whole other enterprise making jewellery.

Found it! The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley horn studio were also at the recent International Horn Society Symposium in Kraków. They spotted this #HiddenHorn and challenged me to find it - I only saw it on my way to the airport so it was a lucky spot!

We've reached the end of a busy year for the natural horn class at Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag / Royal Conservatoire The Hague - to celebrate the class took a little trip to a local restaurant, the aptly named Bodega De Posthoorn!
