Independent film producer - screenwriter - supporting women in film

As Europe is dealing with a heatwave, I can’t help but want to be where Katy is. In a cool pool, surrounded by the shade of olive trees and the comforting summer sound of chirping cicadas.

Who wants to be here? This is our set. This is where Katy’s story will come to life. This is where we will work to make an encouraging and touching film about coming to terms with our parents’ choices in their aging era.

A view of a pool with trees in the background. The sky is blue with some puffs of clouds. To the left we can see a bit of a white holiday villa.

Best memory of your childhood or teenage summer holidays? In When She Goes, Katy’s family’s holiday home is a place of comfort, memories, joy and familiarity. Over the years, as Katy grew from child to teen to young adult and eventually to a woman in her late 30s, the house has been her North star.

a retro tricycle stands on terracotta-Coloured tiles with a pool in the background. The red paint of the tricycle is worn. It’s probably over 30 years old. It has black tires with white rimes and wooden pedals.

Having choices and having the right to choose is a privilege. Making choices for ourselves might not be difficult, but accepting those of others, when they don’t align with our own beliefs or wishes is. Yet, if we want to have the freedom to choose we should extend that freedom to others.

Introducing our Spanish partner for When She Goes. PEDRO CARRILLO is an actor, director, and screenwriter. He has extensive experience in both film and television. He is the founder of The New Hope Studio and produced the feature film Secrets of Dublin which screened at Malaga Film Festival 2026.

Pedro is wearing a tuxedo and looking straight at the camera. He has short, brown hair and his hands hold on to the lapels of his tuxedo jacket. He is on the red carpet at a movie premiere event.

Making a film requires: + People with skills + Equipment for those people with skills All of this costs money if you want everyone to get paid. And we want everyone to get paid because we all have bills to pay and lives to lead.

A woman with dark short hair, lies on the ground, outside, on brown coloured tiles. Her arms are stretched out in front of her and she is holding a DSLR camera which is rested on the ground. She’s peeking through the view finder at something in the distance.

What I want for my company Her Words Productions: Focusing on female filmmakers, recognising their worth and talent and keeping them in the industry. Too much talent gets lost due to the current working conditions not being compatible with care work that still predominantly falls on women.

Annnelies is standing in front of a film festival backdrop. She has a black lace top and black flowing trousers. She has her right hand on her hip and her left arm hangs beside her body. Her head is tilted towards the photographer and she is smiling.

What does a hammock have to do with aging parents? Those with aging parents know that the signs are both obvious and subtle. The subtle ones come first and it takes us a while to see what is happening. When these things add up, we see the reality of parents growing old. So what about the hammock?

Location supports the story. Katy’s story is set at the family’s holiday villa in Spain, a house that has been in the family for decades and is full of memories. This place offers comfort and familiarity.

A Spanish summer, blue skies and an inviting pool full of cool water. A hammock stands next to the pool in the shade of a lush olive tree. This invites us to relax and slow down.

When She Goes - pitch deck inspiration In the next weeks and months, our biggest challenge will be to secure the remaining funds needed to complete this project. This is where a pitch deck comes into play.

A mood board as inspiration for the When She Goes pitch deck. Photos and text show the themes and tone: aging, assisted dying, body autonomy, family, holiday vibes, birthday celebrations, growing up, growing old(er).

Introducing our writer Gemma Reynolds. When She Goes is her story, inspired by her experiences and thoughts on aging parents, body autonomy and assisted dying. Told with lightness and carefully placed humour she gives the audience space for consideration and conversation. Find out more on IMDb.

Headshot of writer and actor Gemma Reynolds. She has short, dark, wavy hair, is wearing black stud earrings and a pastel, pink, knitted sweater. The background green shrubs and trees out of focus.

Presenting: Her Words Productions. Big news! I founded my very own film production company right here in Berlin (DE). Why? Because I wanted to combine my love for film and my love for spreadsheets. And because there is a script that landed in my lap some time ago that just wouldn’t let me go.
