Apparently wanting to open/use Zoom for the final hieroglyphs class was too much for the pokey Devon internet. Alas... 🫠

Always make friends with your hosts because they’ll introduce you to all the farm animals and show you Roman coins found on their land. Goddammit this profession is so fun sometimes.

I have both survived and enjoyed a 2 day adventure through Devon and Cornwall! Moors were seen, as were sheep, castles and an endless number of exceedingly cute English towns. Returning to favorite spots 20 yrs later and also seeing new spots has been so much fun. Now: we dig.

Standing room only on the train from London to Bristol. Exactly what I needed after a long-haul flight 😅

And now, the ceremonial studying of KonMari folding techniques as I begin pre-trip packing.

Pro tip: dehydrating basil flowers will make your kitchen/home smell amazing.

This hurricane humidity is making LA feel like Europe or New England in the summer 🫠

All rise for the Southern California chorus: "We really needed this rain."

Turns out the antidote for rude people is homemade salsa and a paloma 🤷‍♀️

As of today, my nemesis is the hand glyph.

I have gone outside to take a real and proper break on this research+writing day! Please clap!

Once more into the folder of PDFs...

I have now seen a nearly total lunar eclipse with my own eyes.

There are entirely too many big helicopters flying over my house right now. Something is on fire... 🫠

I need everyone in the UK to know that Americans are discovering Butlins thanks to TikTok 🤣😂

Whenever there is particularly sad/upsetting news, I try to do a video featuring cute/derpy artifacts (Little Guys™). Please send me your favorites and I'll put them in today's video for TikTok/IG 😁. Bonus points if there are silly shapes or expressions.

I need the UK to have fewer haunted hotel options. I'm just trying to find somewhere nice (but also fun) to stay 😂

EgyptAir does direct flights from LA now?!?

Finally had enough tomatoes and chiles, so salsa has been made!

Bill was good friends with Khaled. In memory of them both, please enjoy this photo from the U of Michigan field season in Syria in 1971 when the team had a huge feast to celebrate the end of the season. Khaled is on the left.

On 18 August, we remember Khaled al-Asaad, the heroic Syrian archaeologist who was murdered by ISIS on 18 August 2015 for refusing to reveal the hidden treasures of Palmyra. 🙏 #OnThisDay www.theguardian.com/world/2015/a...

The one downside of eating the leftover pizza is that there is no longer any pizza.

Discovered a single monarch caterpillar when I was watering my plants this morning and I will now be protecting this caterpillar with my life.

London museum folks! I will be in your land in October. Who wants to meetup and/or potentially collaborate on some videos? Thinking of checking out the Petrie Museum (haven't been since 2008), Natural History Museum (never been!) and maybe the BM (always love to see old friends/favs)?

More HBO Rome. Each season can be a specific dynasty or emperor if it's one of the more drama-filled ones and it'll take us through the Severan dynasty. Maybe we can do the crisis of the 3rd century as a treat.

youve got 5.6 billion to make a 7 season 56 episode show airing over 15 years, wdyd

Ok Odyssey (1997) part 2 here we go! When last we left, everything was on fire. Now, everything is still on fire. Such are things in this specific version of the underworld. The goat hasn’t even been sacrificed yet.

Right. Steak and martini time, followed by Odyssey (1997) part 2 viewing time.

Attention Ecologists! We are going to need *a lot* of ecologists. The First Lego League Teams need to speak with a scientist about their projects every year. Every year it's a different type of scientist. Last year was archaeologists. This year, ecologists! Sign up: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

If a fish was a schoolteacher would they wear a short sleeve button up shirt and a tie, or JUST a tie?
