On this day 31st August 1422 King Henry V died age 35 of dysentery at Vincennes while on campaign. Famous for the Battle of Agincourt, his body was brought back to England and he was buried in Westminster Abbey He was followed as King by his infant son Henry VI whom he never met.

From the archives on a sunny day, on the border between Herefordshire and Shropshire. RIchard's Castle, a very early construction by Richard Fitz Scrob before the Norman Conquest, looking over towards the east. Not much left of it but a superb defensive position.

St Thomas de Cantilupe died 25th August 1282. Lord Chancellor of England and Bishop of Hereford he was excommunicated after his dispute with the Archbishop of Canterbury. After death he became famous for miracle healings. 71 miracles were recorded in April 1287. His tomb in Hereford Cathedral

Good morning from the Welsh Marches. Dropped into Hereford yesterday for a litte light retail therapy. Very busy wih tourists and organised groups but Sir Edward Elgar remained in his usual tranquil spot overlooking the cathedral.

Good morning from the Welsh Marches. Spent Saturday morning a few miles up the March in Ludlow, always a pleasure and very busy with the market and a throng of tourists. Looking out into the town through the doorway of Ludlow castle, just a many past Mortimers and Plantagenets must have done.
