Good morning, please enjoy this NYT caption accidentally calling Queen Camilla a horse

My aunt wrote a very funny and moving obituary for my grandmother, if you want to get a sense of who she was beyond my silly posts on here

After spending 91+ years keeping family, friends, neighbours (and the occasional gardener) on their toes, Betty has finally decided that it was time for a well-earned rest. Born in Halifax, Nova Scoti...

Me to 15yo before he left for camp earlier this week: I saw that they have bucket hats in the tuck shop, maybe you can get one! 15yo, witheringly: bucket hats are for stoners, mom. I’m a punk.
On an absolutely, completely unrelated note, here’s a nice story that happened this week. 15yo has been saving up Lego gift cards for literal years. Earlier this month, he decided he wanted to spend his hundreds of Lego dollars so that he could get this sea serpent ship gift with purchase
You know, it’s wild how you can be absolutely walloped by grief over the loss of someone who lived a good, long, exciting life, someone who had a quote-unquote good death, whose passing you were more or less prepared for, etc. I keep wishing for shortcuts to get through this grief but there are none
An exciting follow up to the story we shared in our podcast And Also Some Women about Elizabeth Schrader Polczer’s research. She’s literally making history! Cc: @genna.bsky.social, who alerted me to this development
A curious anomaly in one of Christianity's oldest manuscripts changed how scholars now annotate John's Gospel. https://broadview.org/elizabeth-schrader-polczer-gospel-of-john/
Thanks to Broadview Magazine and @annetheriault.bsky.social for this nice feature about my research.

My grandmother died this morning. She was one of my favourite people, like, ever - always so funny & so full of mischief. I will miss her an incredible amount, and I’m so grateful that we made the trip to Spain last year to spend what would turn out to be her last birthday with her. I’m heartbroken.
15yo: I’ve decided which Premier League team I’m going to cheer for Me: oh yeah? 15yo: yeah, Nottingham Forest Me: oh! does one of the England players you like play for them? 15yo: [No, but] Roy Keane played for them and he’s my favourite because he’s funny and he stomped on people Me: oh … great?
I get those contamination OCD intrusive thoughts about all the germs that could be on our hands or our food or anywhere that we might accidentally touch as we’re eating. Man, I would love to just be able to enjoy a midday snack at a cafe without needing to find a place to scrub my hands beforehand.
Happy for Spain, but sad for me, who will have to wait four more years to see another World Cup game
maybe it's not woke to say so but these bog people from the northern barbarian mists simply should not be depicting a civilized race like the greeks
15yo: people are saying that Lupita Nyong’o shouldn’t be in The Odyssey because she doesn’t have the right look. Like, for racist reasons. So now I tell people that I’m not going to watch the movie because Matt Damon and Tom Holland look too pasty and non-Greek. It can go both ways!!!

I am losing my mind. Chat isn’t a search engine. this isn’t normal. framing it as normative is slimy. Tone, vibes all bad.
Hi, this is Holden emerging from my Bluesky hiatus to tell everyone that when checking the links in the piece, I used ChatGPT as my search engine (does anyone use Google anymore?). The piece was written by me and edited by humans. So all the links were checked by me and again by our copyeditors.
They have croissant nightlights at Dollarama, so obviously I had to get one. 15yo calls it the holy croissant.
15yo and I just rewatched this when we were at a cottage last week. Genuinely still the best - also the first thing that made me curious about the Plantagenets
"what radicalized you?" "when i was 7 i watched a chicken sing a sad protest song in jail, a mother rabbit sacrifice her own food to feed her children, and a badger cleric get arrested for standing up to injustice."
I jokingly sent this to one of my fellow volunteers at our church’s soup kitchen, and now we are serving Ordinary Time hotdogs on Monday lol
woke: national hot dog day bespoke:
This fancy Pilates place (that’s part of a chain!) opened a studio in my city and my gym recently closed, so I thought I’d try their intro special. But apparently you have to download an app to see their schedule. Also they spelled my name wrong. Anyway! Best way to ensure I never try your classes!
Need to know Djed Spence’s skincare routine, because he always looks so dewy and blemish-free
If my child tells me one more time that the three lions originated with Richard I’s coat of arms, I will commit a crime. Teach your children about the Plantagenets, they say! Have fun, they say!
Every English person on my timeline today (Who am I kidding, I’m rooting for them against Argentina too)

Lionel Messi’s first meeting with England will be a contest of will and aura
The Messi arc reaches a decisive point in Atlanta – passage to a third final or an exit to test the limits of Argentina’s love for their unassuming athlete-genius

15yo: every time I see Mbappé, he looks stressed. Like he needs to file his taxes or something.
It is 30 degrees out and we don’t have air conditioning. I am trying to hit a deadline. My teenager is (badly) playing bass in his room and I can hear everything because his headphones aren’t working. I have had a headache since I woke up at 3:30 am. Is this what influencers mean by “90s summer”?
Really need Joan of Arc or whoever to come through and deliver a semifinals victory for France on Bastille Day of all days
Delighted to see that even Dortmund is posting flirty Haaland/Bellingham fan edits
