It's happening already. Working class stories and voices have been a part of our culture for six decades, but these are now under direct threat by the removal of essential funding. Starmer seems keen to push as many awful decisions through as he can before Burnham takes over. What a mess.

Also, and perhaps more critically of all, the impact this will have on working class artists will be nothing less than catastrophic. Arts Emergency and the Equity Class Network were set up as this was looming several years ago. Drama schools will soon be chock full of rich kids.

Surely everyone knows by now the amount of money that music, TV, film and theatre brings in to this country. Often much more than the industries the government seem so keen to prop up on a regular basis. It's a complete abandonment of the future of arts in this country, and artists as a whole.

So the arts just got shafted by the government in favour of STEM, and with the raising of the student fees, the burden will now be placed even more upon students, which will further push poorer students out of the arts entirely. This is one of the most blinkered, stupid decisions ever.
