Innovation and capitalism are basically not compatible with a healthy, diverse environment. Working in tech, I worry every day about building meaningful products while not contributing to this problem.

Our interfaces are at best misleading. Some are outright lying to us. The idea around interfaces and UI being technical, functional, and therefore not biased is a mistake. Of course, mostly the misleading is harmless or to our benefit.

I know we’re in the vibe coding era now, but I am all about collabs, the best ideas move through people.

People think good design is easy. But what’s good is subjective. You’ll doubt every decision you make on a design journey. And so will everyone else.

I loved this show. Genuinely one of those that made you think.

The old Quantum Leap series (1989) is incredible. Scott Bakula for me is the face of scientists. I didn't think I would laugh so hard at the jokes when the character played by Dean Stockwell appears. This series calms me down like Star Trek or Columbo.

Something that is very wasteful about recent British politics is having a new Prime Minister every couple of years going through the same mental journey of having all their ideas hit reality.

It's so interesting to me that because of LLMs, language is reemerging as a primary design tool. Language was always a tool used to shape an idea. We're returning to that.

I am not a progress hater but skepticism is good, criticism is good. Technology is both full of opportunity and endless unintended problems and consequences. People don't tend to look far. Too much optimism will keep us blind as creators. I'm hugely in favour of critical perspectives.

I get unreasonably annoyed by vocal fry

People working in 'new tech' are so dismissive of past knowledge, it never fails to amaze me. I guarantee you, someone has solved that problem, just in a different form-factor, but you can still learn from their experience.

When you encounter a convention, a rule, an official "way things are done," ask yourself why. Where did this emerge? What history does the technique you're working with have beyond your immediate field of view? Dig into it and you'll almost always find something interesting. 1/2
