i’ve been podcasting and interviewing writers for 9 years, and it bothers me how often i am told by guests that i am one of few interviewers who has read the book… it is bare minimum prep in my eyes! so anyway if you work in media and need an interviewer who does the work and research, i'm your girl

any internet software/tool i've used to create podcast-adjacent workflows since 2018: we've got a BIG announcement coming, you'll never guess what it is! major changes! me: AI slop. it's AI slop every time.

my daughter very loudly in-store asked me "what's the canadian ketchup we get now that we don't get heinz anymore?!" and a bunch of people in the aisle starting clapping and smiling at her so politics remain on full display in the grocery store

despite, in my work, being an expert on food security and community health and well-being, someone putting together a client slide deck decided to 'ask the robots' to put the slides related to my work together, and for me to review it. in that same time i could have just put the slide together.

i’m concerned with how much “end of reading” discourse is here, because language is powerful and if people keep seeing that message rather than “the fight to help more kids read” or “how educators are teaching a generation struggling to read” i think makes a big cognitive difference

anytime i get a podcast guest pitch from a food product company, i let them know my policy is not doing any interviews with food product spokespeople, but i’d be happy to consider a podcast advertisement collaboration or social media campaign. and everytime they say no, only affirming my policy.

nothing like the prime minister of canada essentially confirming we’re abandoning climate targets to support oil and gas while citizens are getting evacuated out of raging forest fire zones. happy canada day i guess

Reading magazines right now is like 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 TK in the age of ozempic 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 everyone you know is getting botox without you 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

walking to school with my daughter this morning, i had to have a very serious conversation about how she’s officially at the age, as a canadian, where she needs to know the difference between calling someone bud and buddy

regularly reminded i could never be a content creator, but especially after watching a “get ready with me to have my bloodwork drawn” video. i spent the first ten years of my life with weekly bloodwork and would never dream of bringing a camera along to document that illness experience

i’ll never get over glossy pieces about tinned veg and fish having “moments” when that has forever and always been the foods that were affordable and stable for food banks, and for those of us who have grappled with poverty and food insecurity at points in our lives

omg, i was just doing some stats-lite for an upcoming newsletter about my podcast, and it confirmed that since adding video social media promotions, average monthly downloads are up 72% from the last season of audio-only. turns out audiences really need faces before they trust to listen!

it bothers me a lot that the news tab of a google search bar is now so far removed behind ai mode, shopping, and short videos… especially when i’m trying to fact check something i saw on social media.
