It’s fascinating how similar Captain Kirk tricking an evil computer into self-destructing is to jailbreaking a present-day LLM. Generally, computers in TOS are portrayed remarkably similarly to LLMs. Both in their capabilities, but also in the way human characters interact with and relate to them.
The 4th season of The Legend of Vox Machina is out, so I went to reactivate my prime video subscription. Amazon offered a week for free. Sweet summer child, that’s 6 days more than I need to binge-watch the show. They won’t see a dime for this.
Watched TOS: Amok Time today. Damn, that episode has such a good soundtrack. The final fight music is absolutely iconic, but its themes are explored and evolve throughout the episode, appearing initially when Spock first confides in Kirk about pon farr.

A few weeks ago my wife and I, on our nightly summer walks, have stumbled across swarming grounds of fireflies in some nearby bushes. It was amazing seeing a bunch of them just blinking about and finding them at the same spot night after night. Delightful serendipity in the midst of a heatwave.

It’s Saturday. I slept in, did my usual morning routine, brewed & drank my coffee the way I like it, solved a couple of pen & paper sudoku puzzles on the terrace, listened to a podcast episode. A perfect relaxing morning. And I still could have made it to my workday morning standup meeting on time.
There are few things that I hate. Incompetent delivery services are one. My package was shipped around the world. #DPD couldn't deliver it ~15km from their depot to my home. They've been trying for a week. I literally offered to pick it up myself. They gave up & returned the package to the sender. 😫
Bluesky's PDS hits my self-hosting sweet spot. It allows me to host my own data & identity across services. I have a single login into a bunch of apps that's under my control. All that without the need to host whole infra for those services. It makes the right set of tradeoffs for me as an end user.
Going to a concert, have to dress up. The only “band T-shirt” (black, image, text with some bold font choices) is my D&D shirt. Close enough.
Found a two year old save of Deus Ex Human Revolution. I have no idea what’s going on, but I won’t let that ruin a good time.

I’ve been watching Star Trek original series lately. It has the slow temp, like TV shows of its time. Interestingly, it lends itself well to modern TV watching trends of scrolling socials in the background. Works better than constant repetition & exposition dialog employed by modern shows.

How does one add new books to @bookhive.buzz ? 🤔 I know how to search for books that are already in the system and to add them to my want to read/reading/read shelves. But how do I add a new book, either by its ISBN or full details? Btw, I love the app, it's a perfect Goodreads alternative for me.
