1/4 @apnews.com has told some video and photo guild members in the U.S. that the last day for those affected by layoffs will be August 21. Meanwhile the company is actively hiring for these same jobs in India.

AP wants to lay off 30 more U.S. journalists and move those roles to India. That’s after laying off or buying out nearly 150 U.S. staffers over the past two years.
1/5 On May 15, Associated Press leadership cut 20 guild covered staff. Layoffs included U.S. news, photographers, investigations, business and sports across 12 states.
AP's Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation is the kind of work executive editor Julie Pace says “highlights the unique strengths of AP’s global, multiformat newsroom.” But those strengths are being hacked away as management leaves U.S. staffers in the dark on impending layoffs.
1/3 Today, 40 Associated Press guild-covered employees across the U.S. who accepted buyouts left the newsroom for the final time. We’ve been told layoffs will be coming, with no clear timeline. In solidarity, our members in office, at home, and in the field wore their union red today.
1/3 “News doesn’t reveal itself from a distance. It has to be witnessed.” AP Executive Editor Julie Pace affirmed the importance of “eyewitness journalism,” while AP is offering buyouts to more than 120 U.S. guild covered employees across multiple formats. How can AP be on the ground without us?
Yesterday, our members in New York, D.C., Chicago and across the country walked out to demand a fair contract. We deserve job security. We deserve to know AI won’t be used to replace us. We know that @propublica.org can and must do better.
As our strike against the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette enters a third holiday season, we’re raising money to keep our strikers and their families supported. Can you make a donation to show that the community has their backs as they continue to hold the line against the millionaire Block family?
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Striker Holiday Fund
Workers at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette have been on strike for over two years. Contributions to the Holiday Fund will be used to purchase gas and union supermarket gift cards for striking workers.
