#WIPSnips Aug 5 - carrier carrier -> courier Kai is here to make a delivery! They also have a donkey named Nancy. (Chicory is still unsure about them) No worries about the late post! 💛

Nancy didn’t quite bray, but she made a huffing sound.
“Well, yes, they seem quite nice, but I’m always nervous around strangers,” Chicory said softly.
“Oh, can you talk to animals?” Kai asked, eyes widening. “I thought flower fairies could only talk to their gardens.”
Chicory gripped his elbows and said, “I’ve always been good at talking to animals and birds no matter where they’re from. Bugs and plants are harder.”
“That’s neat.” Kai nodded. “Well, you don’t need to be nervous around me. I’m harmless.”
Chicory tapped his fingers against his elbows, stepping back. The garden must have sensed his anxiety because soon, a group of wasps started gathering behind him. A house martin swooped down and stood next to him, chirping out her concern. Although Chicory didn’t want to cause yet another scene, he was glad for their company.
“I just don’t know very many humans,” Chicory said. He turned around once more. “Silas!”
“How many do you know?”
Chicory faced them again, worrying his lower lip. “Silas. Miss Wren. You.”
“Ah, that explains it,” Kai said, lifting their brows. “Well, promise I won’t hurt you. I do need to talk to your human. I’m the courier he ordered. Do you want to grab another one of your fairy friends and they can go get him?”

Chicory panicked, gripping his hands together in front of his stomach. He turned and called, “Silas!”
The stranger giggled. “I’ve never heard of a flower fairy called Silas before. But there’s a first for everything. Why stay inside the usual box, you know?”
Chicory turned around, landing softly on the garden wall and shaking his head. “I’m not Silas. That’s my—the human who owns the cottage. My name is Chicory.”
Chicory tried not to think about how he had nearly called Silas his human.
