When phase-separating proteins are membrane-bound and locally disturb it, the mechanical response of the membrane mediates interactions between these proteins, as shown by Winter et al. The video visualizes this evolving process as protein domains grow, merge, and reshape the membrane.
Bougouin et al. show that when a discontinuous shear-thickening suspension spreads after a dam-breaking event, it generates a vertical front moving at constant speed. This differs from Newtonian fluids which advance slower as they spread through the gravity-driven flow. Read doi.org/10.1103/w1zz...
