Archaeology | Anti-caste | Pop Culture | Digital Humanities आगीतून फुफाट्यात 🔥🌈💥

I'm at that stage of life where I now have a contract to write an academic book (something I never thought would happen) and my family/relatives asking the dreaded question - so how much this book is going to make? and there's no satisfactory answer to that.

Sad to hear that Shereen Ratnagar passed away today. She was one of the few indian archaeologists who did not fall for the state hindutva agenda. She and another archaeologist Dhaneshwar Mandal wrote a scathing critique of controversial Ayodhya ASI excavations.

Absolutely devoured this marathi pulp fiction series called Fu Manchu during school days. Writer Baburao Arnalkar had many other series like Kala Pahad and Zunzar. He mostly wrote crime thrillers, murder mysteries and detective adventure stories. Though Fu Manchu series was my favourite!

OK Global Southern Bluesky, let's go: share your most beloved non-Anglophone pop culture franchises. We want to know about the Nepali romance novels, the Khmer superhero comics, the Guatemalan detective movies, the Malawian ghost hunter cartoons. Or whatever's out there. Please boost!

Archaeology sometimes seems to go out of its way to avoid difficult issues. In 2025 perhaps the most difficult was the ongoing human and ethical catastrophe caused by the actions of the Government of Israel in Gaza and the Occupied Territories, presented here as a timeline by Everyday Orientalism.

Just read a reddit thread of people passionately sharing about how they have still saved the links of now obsolete and defunct torrenting sites that were once almost like thriving ports...the nostalgia!!

“Technology firms behind artificial intelligence–based note-taking software — marketed to therapists as a time-saving administrative tool — have quietly included provisions in their terms and conditions that allow patients’ therapy records to be sold and manipulated to train other AI applications.”

Your Therapists’ Notes Could Become Fodder For AI

Tech companies are marketing AI-based note-taking software to therapists as a new time-saving tool. But by signing up, providers may be unknowingly offering patients’ sensitive health information as d...

My friend Eslam has had her account removed by bluesky moderation. This is not the first time. I want to tell you what she said happened to her, but first, i’d like you to see Eslam’s campaign, since she is apparently not allowed here to share it herself. bit.ly/artist-eslam (1/?)

No One Should Starve for Being Born Here

My name is Eslam Mohammad, I’m 24 years old, and I’m from Gaza.  Over the past year, I’ve lived through unimaginable horror.  I lost my home, my work as a photographer and artist, my friends, and the ...

Eslam shared with me that bluesky moderation made what i think is a very significant request from her. They asked her for a picture of herself, with her passport, and gave her a code to write on a piece of paper for confirmation it was her. She did those things. I saw the picture she sent them.
