I count how many seconds it takes for drivers to look in my direction. Sometimes they don't at all by the time I've passed in front of them. Once when that happened, they actually started to move and clipped by bike. They didn't look even once.

In the last two days, I've had two instances of drivers straight up *not seeing me.* Me, a 5'11" guy riding a 9-ft long, tomato-red cargo bike, with two kids in the bucket wearing hi-viz helmets. I'm beginning to think the "cyclist came out of nowhere" problem is on the drivers' end.

The way that ppl not only dramatically underestimate the number of people biking because they take up a fraction of the space of cars, but then also don't believe it when you put up an automated counter?! Just sit there one day and count them yourself. Being proven wrong doesn't hurt that much.

The “retail needs street parking but actually it’s just the owner who wants to park in front of their store” theory applies to big retail too. Every day there’s a pristine M7 in the most prime spot at Home Depot. Today two employees were cleaning it so I had to ask. Yup. Store Manager’s car.

In the <2 years I’ve been gone Atlanta has basically fixed 85% of all the pedestrian/bike issues that pissed me off and that I’d regularly threaten to run over my city councilmember with a cargo e-bike about on twitter with my full government name on display. This used to be an unprotected bike lane

With enough hubris, any bike is a cargo bike

It slows proliferation of these kinds of projects when media does this bc it makes ppl in other places think the opinions are 50/50 split. It creates a vibe that to replicate it where we live it's going to be a fight, when really most ppl will get behind once they see leaders taking the initiative.

Really fucking dissapointing on the media coverage so far. They’re doing a negative spin and doing the “both sides” approach and focusing on the few concerns people have… When in reality it’s 90/10 support and that’s even being generous to the opposition.

A (very) significant benefit of living in an apartment building is getting an absolutely incredible view of the sky.

The purposes of each being very different: 1. For enhancing my ability to stay on a dance floor for 5 hours while ignoring how my feet felt about that. 2. For enhancing my ability to lift extremely heavy things one time. In other news, I hit a record deadlift PR of 330 lb last week. ✌🏼

I'll add that we've also normalized the debt load having two large vehicles gives people. Not that cargo bikes are cheap, but they're half the price or less than a new car, the ongoing maintenance costs are MUCH less, and many of them retain their values better than a car.

No one ever questions a two car household or even a two midsized SUV household, so for anyone thinking two e-cargo bikes in one home is crazy, just consider the current status quo.

We live in an era of SO MUCH data, and most of it re: transportation shows that improving cycling and pedestrian infrastructure = better for everyone. It is a combination of ignorance and pure unwillingness on the part of weak political leadership to push for change.

Political will is the only thing preventing cities from constructing fully protected bike + pedestrian infrastructure. We are well into the climate emergency. It is the warmest days of the coolest summer of the rest of our lives. The time to act was 30 years ago. The next best time is right now.

Hanover's main street isn't particularly busy so I'm looking around at other things and have noticed that the little sparrows come by and eat the bugs off the grills of the park cars.

Sitting and watching single ppl drive by in cars that take up 4-5 people's worth of space will radicalize you.
