It happened again, I was on the air! Last week we organised, with the fundamental help of Fondazione Villa Salus, the event "The role of AI in medical decision making". The conference spawned a few interviews, including a couple for television, which is always a tricky task

We finally founded AI LIGHTS, a university spin-off dedicated to the development of ethical AI applications in biomedicine and humanitarian domains. The first product of our start-up will be THAITI, our award-winning patented technology for personalised cardiac magnetic resonance

Yesterday I did an invited talk at the Veneto Eye-Bank, a no-profit foundation for eye restoration. A great experience, the labs are top notch, I learned a lot. They kindly gave me a bottle of "Santalucia", a local rare wine (only a few numbered bottles exist) dedicated to the Eye bank itself

IEEE WCCI 2026 has started! This edition I got three papers accepted. Two of them will be presented by my PhD students: Silvia Multari⁩ (evolutionary drug design) and Matteo Grazioso (interpretable/explainable/gen AI). My own talk will focus on spectral analysis of fitness landscapes #wcci2026

Today I was at the University Milano-Bicocca for the 2nd edition of ASCLEPIO AI, a congress on medical AI designed for scientific journalists. I gave a talk on pros & cons. My students Silvia, Matteo and Leone also had the possibility to present their research on drug discovery, AI Fairness, and HPC

I had the honour of being invited by Prof. D'Antiga to give a talk at the BE LIVER conference on pediatric hepatolology in Bergamo. I presented our research on AI in medicine, focusing on recent works about drug repurposing and interpretable autoencoders. Great audience response, awesome location!

Yesterday I had the honour of giving a talk at the event "Artificial Intelligence and Gender-based violence" hosted by the Department of Economics of Ca' Foscari. A very interesting, and timely, event with top notch talks. My speech focused on fairness, gender bias in generative AI, deepfakes

Yesterday, I attended the Conference of University Rectors (CRUI) in Rome. The topic of the meeting was the recent agreement between CRUI and Google on AI. CRUI resides in the stunning Palazzo Rondanini, characterised by wonderful frescos commissioned by Pope Paul III back in 1550.

Yesterday I gave a long invited seminar on the future of healthcare at the CIVITAS school of "public duty" in Pordenone. The long talk (2.5 hrs!) was moderated by my good friend and amazing colleague Francesca dal Mas, who highlighted the challenges in management. Great reaction from the attendees!

Dr. Domenico Bagordo recently invited me to give the opening speech in the event "Culture and Artificial Intelligence – Digital Healthcare" at the Collegio Fratelli Cairoli, where I also met my former PhD student, Dr. Amalia Lupi, who talked about XAI. Very nice event, and I also got a cool new tie!

Yesterday morning I was in Bari for the 8th Cracking Cancer conference. I was invited by Mariangela Ciccarese (chair of health pathways of the Puglia region) to discuss the future of AI with Paolo Tralongo, president of the Italian Chief Hospital Oncologists. A very pleasant and timely event!

Today I had the honour to give a keynote at the University of Turin. I described the advantages and dangers of AI, with an unusual (for me) focus about nursing applications. Many thanks to the organisers for the kind invitation, and the very nice opportunity to showcase our most recent work on XAI

Yesterday morning I was kindly invited to give a speech at the #UniSTEM day 2026 at Ca' Foscari. In front of a few hundred high school students I talked about the crosstalk between medicine, computer science, and philosophy determined by modern AI applied in sensitive domains like healthcare

Yesterday I had the privilege to give a talk at the event MOSAICO talks 2026. The topic was "invisible challenges", I decided to discuss professional deskilling due to AI. A very nice event, organised in the wonderful Aula Baratto within the main building of Ca' Foscari University

Bild

I recently gave invited talk at the conference "Percorsi di Oncologia di Precisione" at the Galfa tower in Milan. I showed our most recent works on melanoma modeling, AI in pathology, drug discovery. I also had the opportunity to discuss, with a very receptive audience, the risks of LLMs in medicine

Bild

A few days ago I had the privilege of giving a lecture within the PhD course "Phylosophy of AI & Robotics" at University of Milano-Bicocca. My lecture focused on philosophy of mind, explainability, Generative AI, human expression, and human rights. Thx to Prof. Datteri for the kind invitation!

Prediction of cosmic rays propagation is helpful for planning missions within the heliosphere, as they tend to damage electronics and cause tumours. We present the new COSMICA, a tool for GPU-based massive study of rays propagation. Published today on Astronomy & Computing doi.org/10.1016/j.as...

Massive stochastic simulation of cosmic rays propagation in the heliosphere: The COSMICA code

The accurate modeling of galactic cosmic ray (GCR) propagation in the heliosphere requires solving the Parker Transport Equation (PTE), a multidimensi…

I have been kindly invited by the organisers of the 10th Congress of Anatomopathology (SIAPeC-IAP) to give a talk about the challenges of AI applied to Digital Pathology, from both a computational and an ethical point of view. Very nice experience, and the venue was rather intimidating!

An artificial heart for children with congenital heart defects was almost finished. Families had waited for years it. Then, Trump canceled billions in grants for universities — including the grant for this device. The cruelty is endless. www.npr.org/2025/10/09/n...

This 4-year-old's heart is failing. A federal grant that might help him was canceled

A Cornell University researcher has been developing an artificial heart for children for more than 20 years. Now, his research is on hold and his lab is shut down.
