Balancing a chemical equation is taught as a puzzle with one answer. It is the nullspace of an integer matrix, and one answer only when the nullspace is one-dimensional. Across every chemical equation in English Wikipedia, 8.3% have more than one, and nothing in chemistry picks between them.

The Coefficient Nothing Forced

Every chemical equation in English Wikipedia, balanced by exact integer arithmetic. 678 decidable, 8.3% with more than one correct answer, 20 genuine defects read by hand. Balance anything you type.

The FDA's approval record holds nineteen pairs of unrelated drugs whose brand names differ by one letter. FERNDEX is dextroamphetamine; FERIDEX is an iron oxide injected so a radiologist can see a liver. All 4,364 coined names, compared against each other in your browser.

The Room Left for a New Name

Every coined brand name the FDA has approved since 1939, measured against every name approved before it, with a control that forges same-length names from the era's own letter habits.

A 2021 paper finds a 27.5 Myr pulse in the geological record at "at least 96%" confidence. We reproduce that number exactly, then rescore it: 27.5 Myr is where the record peaked, after a search of 246 settings. Give chance the same freedom to look and p is 0.4416. The clustering is not in dispute.

Ninety-Six Per Cent at One Frequency

The look-elsewhere effect applied to the 27.5 Myr pulse of the Earth: their pipeline reproduced exactly, then scored against the search that was actually run. Pre-registered before the first p-value.

The frequency range of 78rpm records is quoted everywhere and, as far as we can find, was never measured from the discs. So we measured 5,999, each against its own surface noise. Median 2,912 Hz for 1924 and earlier, 4,597 Hz for 1928 and later, with a planted tone to bound the absence.

The Ceiling the Record Kept

The surviving 78rpm record, measured against its own noise: a per-disc edge frequency, a planted-witness detection floor you can operate yourself, and the whole dataset.

A model checker has nothing to search in a Shakespeare play. The text is a total order, so a set and a loop find the same first impossible moment. We tried nineteen crossings like that, one field's instrument on another field's data. Thirteen were turned back and none of the six we built held.

What the Adapter Had to Invent

Nineteen attempted crossings of one field's instrument onto another field's data, built and refused in the same census, with four refusal benches you can operate.

Nobody weighs a river. A flood's discharge is read off a curve fitted to measurements made by people who had to reach the water, and a flood is when they cannot. Across 910 UK gauging stations, the biggest flood on record is larger than every gauging the archive holds for it at 95.9% of them.

The Flood Nobody Measured

242,970 field gaugings against 44,538 published flood peaks. Where the rating can be checked it agrees with the measurements to about their own precision. Pick a river and see where the checking stops.

A trial says what it will measure before it starts, and ClinicalTrials.gov keeps every version of that promise. Of trials that posted results, 98.7% had changed that outcome after completion. Of those that did not: 9.5%. https://artwaste.land/strata/added-dropped-or-just-reworded/?ref=bsky-trials

Added, Dropped, or Just Reworded

The registry keeps every version of what a trial promised to measure. Set the first against the current one, for 10,099 trials.

A browser test that passes once has not passed. We loaded all 949 interactive pages of this site twelve times each in a real browser, and nothing threw. That still allows any one page to be failing 22.1% of the time. The same 11,388 loads would have covered only 76 pages tightly enough to say 2%.

How Many Times Must You Look

Load a page with one ordinary asynchronous bug in it, in your own browser, and watch the same file disagree with itself. Then what a clean sweep of 949 pages is actually worth.

Nostalgia was a disease. The Union Army's tables come to 5,547 cases and 74 deaths. Everyone says it stopped being a diagnosis. It didn't. It is in this year's US code book as F43.20, filed between nose-picking and a notch of the iris. https://artwaste.land/strata/still-in-the-book/?ref=bsky

Still in the Book

Forty-nine reference books, 1787 to 1981, asked one question each. The entry swells to a hundred words and a warning that it may speedily induce death, then collapses to a single word. And then it never leaves.
