Australian Society of Authors

The national peak organisation promoting and protecting the professional interests of Australia's authors and illustrators since 1963.

Big tech wants to use Australian creative work to train AI models without permission or payment. It's our creativity. Our culture. Our choice. Don’t sign our rights away. @albomp Our warm thanks to @andygbooks for joining the ASA in our continued fight for creator rights.

The ASA CEO, Lucy Hayward, was joined yesterday by Anna Funder and Andy Griffiths in Canberra to speak up for creators. Alongside our creative industry colleagues we had a clear message - there is to be no use of our creative work by AI companies without permission and payment.

🚨 Authors and illustrators 🚨 Billion dollar tech companies want a hand-out, a free-for-all for our labour and intellectual property to train their AI models. We call on the Australian Government to commit to the future of creativity in this country and not to trade it away.
