My hottest of hot takes: the only people who should run companies that make things are people who deeply give a fuck about those things. Only people who love games and love playing games should run companies that make games. Doesn’t matter if it’s cheeseburgers or software.
15+ years ago I yelled in anger to my startup cofounder: “The code on your computer is worth nothing. Go out and sell it.” Harsh, but it’s always been true.
Maybe my concept of meaningful work and yours are not the same. Maybe we should start with that.

Eight years of wanting, three months of building with AI
For eight years, I’ve wanted a high-quality set of devtools for working with SQLite. Given how important SQLite is to the industry1, I’ve long been puzzled that no one has invested in building a reall...

@offprint.app is insanely good for a first release. I was literally mid-plan on building my own blog. Still might. But it's really hard to justify when this exists. Might just throw them an annual sub and start writing. Kudos to the team!
It's taken far longer than expected, but we are here, open beta! 🚀 ready for writers to start their journey on Offprint. Soon you all will be receiving an email notifying you that your invite request has been approved. Take a look around, we will be available for any questions you may have!

what are the chances this thing will be abandonware in a month? you can make something in a few days but will you commit to maintaining and improving it for the next few years?

So let me get this straight. You work 9-to-5, earn a salary, and spend some of it on a loot box for virtual goods. Then you play a game, scan your environment, earn those same virtual goods as payment, and now you’re mad because you “worked for free”? All while you agreed to this in the EULA.

Building your product solely on data may seem like a smart move at first, but it sets the stage for a slow erosion of trust (fueled by anti-consumer practices and a lack of innovation) first from your customers, and then, inevitably, from your own team.
