Multi-classed Software Engineer/Constructive Mathematician. Sometimes plays video games sort of fast. Puts topoi in your computer.

I want to explain what's going on here. Because it's quite interesting. The type of monads over the category of presheaves is given by class PMonad f where return :: p i -> f i (>>=) :: f p i -> (forall j. p j -> f q j) -> f q i (just follow the textbooks) 1/11

I told a tall story about type inference via effects and handlers, this morning in Bristol. Thanks to my lovely hosts! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vc2n...

Heard good (great) things about Pantheon several times. It's too early for a pronouncement, but it's got a lot of things going for it. But it's super weird to watch at times because it uses computer science/software vocabulary in a vaguely correct way. 1/3

Moi : Jean Rochefort

So… the adventure of Elliot. It's generally Zelda shaped, though more biased toward combat. Dungeon design is solid, but rarely great. The dungeons are relatively small and straightforward. But what I want to focus on today is how extraordinarily poorly written it is. 1/8

A one-hole context C[] maps a term Γ ⊢ e : τ to a term Δ ⊢ C[e] : σ. C[]'s type is two contexts and two types. However the contexts generated by let x = e in [] and case e of { (x, y) -> [] } (and such) are special: they are polymorphic in τ=σ. 1/4

I once bought some hard-boiled quailed eggs for a picnic. I gave some to the (eager) children who immediately went: dad you eggs aren't eggs, they're cheese. And I realise that this tweet would be much funnier if they had been right.

This year is Octopath Traveler's 8th anniversary. To celebrate, the community is putting together a speedrunning showcase. I'll be racing Cyrus against Doid, and showing off Alfyn glitched. There will also be good runs.

The 8th anniversary day may be over but the celebration continues on @rpglimitbreak.bsky.social! The Octopath speedrunning community is doing a weekend long showcase featuring many runners and categories. Check it out! Starts this Saturday @ 8am CDT (UTC-5) Schedule: horaro.net/ot8th/ot8ths...

I've just read “The Library at Mount Char” by Scott Hawkins. And… wow! Above all this novel is extraordinarily well-written. I can't resist reproducing the first couple paragraphs. 1/7

An amusing quirk of the French language is that “bonjour” and “bonne journée” which should mean the same thing, actually mean the opposite. “Hello” and “goodbye” respectively.

The very same Discord interaction has happened to me twice. A lady from a common game's server sends friend request. Calls me by a name that is not mine. “Oh no, I thought you were my friend, sorry for the mistake”. “Anyway, I'm a from <country> and I'm <age>”. 1/2

I recently watched “The man from UNCLE” (2015). I never knew this film existed. I should have. It's a very silly, over the top spy movie which doesn't take itself seriously. A lot of fun to watch. With a budget of ~80M$, I guess it fits in the mid-budget range. 1/7

I was browsing a books in a charity sale. And I found a book with the mention “A murder most unladylike mystery”. Rarely has their been a title more custom made to make me buy a thing. I bought the thing. 1/4

I wrote about my sheaves project in prose form. Code, even small as that project, doesn't give you a lot of navigation keys. So I wanted to make something a bit more sequential to help get the important points across. Let me know if it helps.

In his latest blog post, @aspiwack.bsky.social shows how, despite textbook definitions suggesting the contrary, sheaves (from category theory) can be implemented in ordinary functional programming languages. www.tweag.io/blog/2026-06...

Patrick Willems is always excellent. But I wanted to share this recent episode because he touches to something that I care about particularly, which is the relation to of streaming service to production, and their lack of taste. 1/4 www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6Yv...
