Thread on our new paper on arxiv today! We stumbled across a weird sinusoidal systematic that we think appears in every observation from the NIRISS instrument on JWST. We derive a correction and see how much it impacts exoplanet spectra. (1/N) #astro #exoplanets 🔭🧪 arxiv.org/abs/2606.11983

Calibration of an Analog-to-Digital Conversion Nonlinearity in JWST/NIRISS

We quantify an unusual flux-dependent systematic which is periodic in raw counts in flight data from the James Webb Space Telescope's Near Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (JWST/NIRISS), used...

Do you like binary stars? How about Wolf-Rayet stars? May I introduce you to my new chapter on what happens when you put WR stars in binaries... awesome colliding wind binaries! This should be a handy resource whether you're new to or knee-deep in the field! 🔭(1/?) arxiv.org/abs/2412.12534

Wolf-Rayet Colliding Wind Binaries

Wolf-Rayet stars embody the final stable phase of the most massive stars immediately before their evolution is terminated in a supernova explosion. They are responsible for some of the most extreme an...

Deeply sad to hear of Prof. Fajan's passing--a deeply inspiring and dedicated educator at Berkeley. When I took his instrumentation class, COVID switched us to remote mid-semester. He ended up hand soldering Arduino kits and mailing them to us for the final project.

Devastated to learn that Joel Fajans has recently passed away - one of the most inspiring lecturers I ever had as a student. He was so creative and engaging. I think about his lecture on the physics of bikes every week!

Hello new followers! I'm Shishir, and I study all things exoplanets. Below is an artist's rendition of Gliese 12 b, a planet I co-led the discovery of this year. I plan to post more cool things I come across in my research. I also love astrophotography, so stay tuned for pretty space pictures! 🪐🔭

Comet A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS Timelapse ☄️ I've been photographing this comet for the past couple days, and I've been blown away by how bright it is. Can't wait to get back out for more tonight! Location: Queensland, Australia Equipment: Sony A7IV with 100mm lens, tracked. #astrophotography 🔭
