In #mathstoday I considered if there is a case in which the constructions for perpendicular bisectors and angle bisectors converge, and concluded there isn't - although the 180 degree angle comes intriguingly close.

Uncomfortable school truths #1: Our schools would go bankrupt if we solved the teacher retention problem. The finances could not survive without constantly replacing expensive experienced staff with cheap ECTs.

The moment you think "we should look at a sample of exercise books", stop and don't be silly. There are exactly and only two reliable and responsible ways to find out about teaching: 1) watching teaching happen, 2) watching teaching happen.

Exercise books are so temptingly inspectable. You can flick through & feel you’ve seen learning. But full pages, neat titles, coloured pens and polished paragraphs are, at best, proxies. The more beautiful a book is often the less evidence of learning it provides. open.substack.com/pub/daviddid...

Formative assessment is incompatible with an inflexible order of lessons. If formative assessment is showing students aren't ready to progress from area to volume then as a professional I must be allowed to decide to push back teaching volume until they are. #mathsteacher
