I regularly review books online, and let me tell you, negative reviews are actively discouraged. If you didn't like it? Don't say anything. Less than 4 stars? Keep it to yourself. It's becoming a terrible ecosystem where we can't discuss anything critically or with any nuance.

Hmmm. I read the Emily Wilson review of Nolan's The Odyssey and not sure what the hubbub is about. Are negative reviews not allowed anymore? Some nuance of her points seems flattened in the criticisms of the review, too.

I love that Emily Wilson called Nolan's The Odyssey "family-friendly" because it is! It's a kids' movie (complimentary). It has as much death and horror as The Mummy and as much nudity as Titanic (both PG-13s). I cannot fathom the R rating other than its *very serious. *

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.

I googled "Owen Wilson tattoos" and "Actor Owen Wilson tattoo on shoulder" like 5 minutes apart. AI truly proving its worthlessness. Google really blew up search for this? They have to know it doesn't work, right?

Search for "Owen Wilson tattoos" Google AI answer Owen Wilson does not have any tattoos. The actor is known for keeping a clean-cut, ink-free appearance both on and off-screen. While fan art and memes occasionally surface online featuring his face on someone else's body, Owen himself has never gotten inked. His most recognizable "feature" is actually the distinct shape of his nose, which was altered by injuries from childhood scuffles, a high school football game, and a motorcycle accident in his youth. Genuinely love it when my alma mater goes viral (even for dumb reasons). Yes, the academic logo is a pegasus. Yes, the sports logo is a knight. Sometimes the logo is (and I'm quoting my '09 alum husband here) "an astronaut that harvests oranges on the moon." Yes, it's very confusing.

The Florida Tech (now University of Central Florida) "Citronauts" The logo features a man with an orange for a body, leaves for a collar and a space helmet. He stands next to a palm tree. He has a big T on his tummy. It's very kitsch and makes no sense.

I am not surprised UCF invited this speaker for the School of Comminication and College of Arts and Humanities (I'm an '08 alum). They also thought it'd be a great idea to send me this earlier this month: www.ucf.edu/pegasus/why-...

As a teacher, I’m transparent with my own uses of AI and the things I think these tools do well, like helping me beta test instructions for activities and turning my class notes into slides. I don’t outright ban the use of these tools in my classes because doing so both fails to prepare students for workplace writing and robs them of an opportunity to practice a new form of critical digital literacy.

Project Hail Mary (the movie) has a *lot* of dialog that is not in the book (and a lot that was apparently improvised), and at first I was like "oh, was Andy Weir upset by this?" And now I know he literally doesn't care, apparently.

I get that it's dunk-on-cursive day; I get that tweet from Shapiro is particularly tone deaf; I get that adults type almost exclusively, but handwriting *is* important for all children and cursive *is especially* important for dyslexics, and I pray to God one day progressives will learn that.
