3 August 1902 | German Jewish woman Regina Jonas was born in Berlin. In 1935 she became the 1st woman ordained as a rabbi by the liberal rabbi Max Dienemann. Arrested in Nov 1942 she was deported to Theresienstadt & in mid-October 1944 deported to #Auschwitz where she perished.

2 August 1943 | 1,000 Jews arrived at Auschwitz from Drancy in German-occupied France. After the selection 218 men & 55 women were registered as prisoners. The remaining 727 people were murdered in gas chambers. Françoise Sukno was among them. She was almost 3 months old.

2/3 August 1944 | The Germans liquidated the so-called Gypsy camp (Zigeunerlager - sector BIIe) of Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Some 4,300 children, women and men - the last Roma prisoners of the sector - were loaded onto trucks and driven to the gas chambers.
