New perspective “Interpreting the Microplastics Intake–Detection Gap in Human Biomonitoring“ article in ES&T. As more papers come out reporting microplastics in the human body, we need a better framework for conveying exposure levels to intake to adequately assess risk and outcomes for humans.

Interpreting the Microplastics Intake–Detection Gap in Human Biomonitoring

Abstract. Reports of microplastics (MPs) in human blood and tissues have intensified interest in the relationship between external exposure and internal me

People like to believe that they don’t harbor prejudices or biases. Sadly, most don’t realize how conditioned they are to it. The tight rope Black people have to walk on can be so tiresome….we don’t get to be human. Most can only tolerate us when we are docile or smiling. Either a hero or a monster…

Some people think just admitting to something they did wrong is taking accountability. Accountability is acknowledging why it was wrong and how they should have acted better, and seeing how they did created issues regarding trust. Having zero introspection allows for the cycle to be repeated again.

“People may celebrate you when you're useful, applaud your contributions, and seek your presence. But once you've fulfilled a role, some may overlook your value or even redefine your worth. Your value is not determined by how others label you after they've benefited from you.“

When I show up to work, I have to lose my humanity. Black people are typically only accepted when we smile, accept disrespect, have unlimited empathy, and remain docile. If we exhibit regular human behavior we are treated as though we are violent, angry, intimidating people. #BlackInSTEM

All those “allies” who left Twitter because of increased racism……look at their Bluesky account and you’ll see not one mention of the injustices Black Americans have faced in the past few months let alone the past couple of years….

New perspective paper out in ACS ES&T titled Potential Release of Micro- and Nanoplastics from Stormwater Infrastructure. This paper came out of a failed grant submission but highlights a mechanism of microplastic pollution that is severely underestimated.

Potential Release of Micro- and Nanoplastics from Stormwater Infrastructure

Stormwater systems increasingly rely on polymer-based materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and polypropylene (PP) due to their durability, l...

A lot of “allies” who posted black squares on IG years ago and said they were “doing the work” are very silent in regards to the Karmelo Anthony verdict as well as the murder of Cyrus Carmack-Belton. It’s not surprising in the slightest. Speaking up on these matters requires people to actually care.

In the past month we’ve seen the murderer of a Black boy go free after shooting him in the back for “shoplifting”. Today we get the verdict of another where a Black boy defended himself and was found guilty of murder. You can’t walk away or stand your ground. Death or prison are the only options
