Reader. Writer. Teacher. He/Him. ANTI-AI.

Of course the legendary Chuck Palahniuk just published a brilliant essay on S*bstack about the importance of solving challenges within your work by actually WRITING as opposed to using genAI. He says: “If you want to be “transgressive” you need to get some skin in the game.” YES, CHUCK. YES!!!

I wrote this story for Fiction Writing I, back in 2002, I think; it’s 17-pages of a man running from townsfolk as he morphs into a werewolf. My professor and my peers did not approve. (Blood added later, I’m guessing?)

Unearthed my writings going back to high school and even earlier. This is how it’s done. You write and write and write and write. And get rejected again and again. (Check out my rejection letter!)

August 12, 2025, I started handwriting a novel. I’ve averaged about a page a day (some days I’ve written literally one sentence), and today I’m on page 278. It’ll be a few more months until it’s done. Then I’ll let it sit, and begin typing it up. Slow and steady, like the tortoise. That’s my secret.
