Their reporter, Cat Smith, then said, "we actually did have information in our story saying that Barnes' travel was basically in line with what Diaz and other past chiefs have done. It's a lot of travel. The position in Seattle, traveling is part of the job." One problem: They didn't have that info.

Until a road is 100% pedestrian only, it is not pedestrianized. If service vehicles or local access are allowed, people on the street must still be aware and in fear of a vehicle cutting them down. People can't sit and picnic in the middle of the road. That should not be considered pedestrianized.

This is rare for our area, fortunately, but even a single occurrence is one too many. Hoping that everyone is okay.

Some of y'all transit advocates have absolutely awful takes, just going to start blocking on sight. What fantasy world do you expect us to live in? We can always strive to do better, but a lack of perfection doesn't mean you suggest crashing and burning an agency that is trying it's damn best.

This should be our opportunity to use the massive amounts of money that AI is creating to reinvest in huge solar farms, modern nuclear plants, a clean resilient energy grid!! But we're not doing that, so instead everyone's fighting over energy.

I won't express a policy opinion, but I will (as usual) share a principle. It is a failure of the modern world that we are forced to choose these things. It is a failure that we live in such scarcity that we cannot increase funds by 1/6 to keep children from starving. We must strive for better.

I would encourage folks to click the link and read the amendment, which is also sponsored by Dionne Foster. I'm not expressing a policy opinion, but it would shift those dollars to kids' food assistance over weekends and school breaks for a full six years by delaying universal meals by one year.

I really think that some wayfinding things are just skill issues. We're following international numbering and lettering standards, and we have clearly marked Information Stations all along platforms, with all the information you need about stations, exits, surroundings, and more.

For me, I never use the numbers because I am a deeply experienced transit rider. The exit signage is baffling, fully agreed. But I have seen people who aren't using English use the station codes: it's a lot faster to sign "2-41" in ASL than it is to fingerspell "Mountlake Terrace"

Not even just sports. Like, can we keep these displays up, possibly movies at one of them, sports at another, music videos at another... just all your constant media? Create areas for people to *reliably* get together and watch Whatever's On!

I think we are seeing so obviously that people in Seattle want parties in public space. Sports give people an excuse to gather together, we should do this for other sports!

We have some great pedestrian spaces, it's true, we do. The fundamental problem is: We will never reach pedestrianization when cars, even emergency vehicles, are allowed through. It means peds have to be on-guard at all times. You can never relax, cuz there could be someone who needs through.

Oh it's been a while, hasn't it. Progress takes a while. Reworked basically every element of the codebase and databases since last time, but behavior is actually much more consistent now. Still 1 more probably restructure (another few weeks...) before I get around to releasing this.

My FIFA philosophy as someone who doesn't care about the teams is pretty straightforward. 1. Whatever brings Seattle the most attention 2. Whatever leads to the biggest downfall of the powerful people and teams that everyone obnoxious worships 3. Whatever is funniest 4. Whatever is most dramatic

Contrary to popular sentiment, I am looking forward to July 4th. I think there are few occasions that we get to celebrate, and fireworks are one quite fun way of doing so. No, I don't have an answer to their numerous downsides. I enjoy fireworks and look forward to the shows :)

This, among other things, continues to give me hope. If things can get worse so quickly -- they can also get better quickly, if we have the will to do it. Our lifetimes, unlike many of our sitting politicians, will be long enough to witness change and the betterment of society.

I am the mom of a wonderfully active child. As she grows, I want her to find belonging, joy, and friendship at school and, if she chooses, while competing in school sports.

If your last trains of the night are standing room only, that's not a good sign for a transit agency, it's a big problem. Sound Transit desperately needs later service on light rail, even if only 2 car sweeper trains every 20 minutes.

The official number is only 400 housing units, under current zoning. More than anything, this reminds me that our zoning allowances are dramatically too low in neighborhoods worried about gentrification, to the point that our too-marginal new housing induces gentrification rather than offsets it.

Just in: we have a new Sound Transit light rail ridership record. The system carried 280,000 riders on Friday June 19, the day of the U.S. vs Australia match and an evening Mariners game.

This is every single permit approved in Seattle in 2026 adding over 10 housing units. 12 permits...total. 1054 units...total. For the entire first half of the year. 😬
