A thread of thoughts on radiance fields, from my keynote at 3DV: Radiance fields have had 3 distinct generations. First was NeRF: just posenc and a tiny MLP. This was slow to train but worked really well, and it was unusually compressed --- The NeRF was smaller than the images.

end-to-end latency test for moonlight streaming from my PC (shown on the monitor) to me Steam Deck Total latency at 60fps is around a frame (16ms). Even less so for 90fps. Feels fantastic for playing with a controller

Why doesn’t valve put any effort into making Steam Link as good as moonlight streaming? Such a shame! It’s a core part of the Steam deck experience

Ai is great case I can ask it “Yo bud ffmpeg command compress video to 720p 30fps make it good looking but under 30 mb no audio h264 mp4 stat homie keep it succinct” and get a perfect result

Currently dealing with two opinions at odds with each other 1. meta horizon worlds is cancer and is killing the quest vr dev ecosystem 2. meta horizon worlds is the reason why meta is subsidizing the headsets, which is how the quest dev vr exist in the first place Thoughts?

The camera’s here and I’m lovin it! Fantastic camera baseline, optical zoom, surprisingly decent quality in low light, a 3D display for preview, auto-alignment during capture, and a satisfying flip up/down mechanism for turning it on—15 year old tech! Will work on converting to spatial photos!

The reason I’m in Bsky is because I missed seeing a lot of your faces on Twitter Glad to see that there is a place where a lot of the vr world congregated outside of twitter

Found a neat use case of my Vision Pro: previewing 3D prints before printing them. Visualizing the scale of prints is always hard—not anymore! The workflow is super easy. Export model as USDZ from blender and open it in Vision Pro.

btw - this is what a photogrammetry project looks like you have a whole bunch of photos (in this case 1180 images from a DSLR and a drone) where you compare high contrast features against one another to find shared tie points, which make up the point cloud that you see next, for meshing

A few year ago, my wife and I went to Turkey to 3D scan the ruins of Ani, the medieval capital of Armenia I’m finally starting to publish my work—downloadable via sketchfab for free! Links below 👇
