Left-winger from way back. ABC voter. Alarmed by the rise of fascism all over the world. Let's build a wall and make America pay for it. MAGAt's unwelcome, as are Canadian Conservatives. #Cansky 🍁 🇨🇦

Book titles nobody will understand anymore due to technology: "The Glass Teat" and "The Other Glass Teat." Two collections of columns about television by Harlan Ellison, written in the 1960s, back when televisions had cathode ray tubes instead of flat panel LCDs.

Books that I have read purely because of the title: "The Sexual Politics of Meat." Won a prize at a book fair for that title. Apparently, women were considered to be too refined & too fragile to be allowed to eat too much meat in Victorian times. Author was vegetarian.

A couple of decades ago I worked with a woman who was a stenographer. She worked as a court reporter until the government found a way to replace her with a computer. You don't see a lot of working stenographers anymore, unless they're working for the media, especially Conservative media.

A Christian commentator wrote that people seem to consider God to be their own personal "make a wish foundation" when they prayed. Americans who voted for Trump and who get upset with something he does or has done seem to be of the same mindset when they say, "I didn't vote for that."

I watched a clip of Kevin Hassett, a Trump official, trying to justify a 50% tariff on Brazil. Throughout the interview, Hassett kept saying it was all part of Trump's efforts to bring in a "golden age" for America. He smiled the whole time. I remember now why I distrust people who smile too much.

American politicians have written to the government of Canada, asking if we can do something about wildfire smoke drifting South. Won't be long before Canada can complain to the US about the smoke coming from mass cremation of detainees.

The term "moral injury" refers to being forced to witness or participate in actions that are morally offensive to you. Any Americans experiencing this or are you good with what's happening? I suspect that a majority, 69%, are just fine with what's going on. I'm not so sure about the rest.

An independent journalist who covers Canadian politics named Dale Smith coined the term "murder clowns" to describe provincial premiers whose inadequate handling of Covid led to deaths. I can't think of a better term to describe the Trump administration and all its enablers: murder clowns.

I'm kind of agnostic about whether there is an Afterlife. Nonetheless, I try to be kind (to non-MAGAts) and a decent person. The idea of spending eternity in Hell scares me, mainly because I would be spending it with Republicans and Conservatives from all over the world.

I'm a Canadian who works in healthcare. I'm not a doctor, nurse, or lab tech, but I do have access to people's health records, something I check before dealing with a crisis in Emergency. It hit me today that, no matter how marginalized a person is, they get healthcare. We don't want to lose this.
