My hot flight attendant asked how I like my coffee
Trying to sound cool, I told her I like my coffee like I like my women. And that's when she told me "That's cute honey, but the coffee's free. You don't have to pay for it here!"

Even if you don't like Halloween you have to appreciate its position as the sole thing keeping Christmas from advancing even earlier into the year like a cancerous growth

Monster O
BY JASON IRWIN
I was a zygote then—
a coin in my mother's purse,
a fish, swimming in the brine

of her sins. I was the tiny monster growing inside her, always
needing, always reaching.

Then, swaddled in my disfigured armor,
I howled and squirmed. Priests
and soothsayers were summoned
with their incantations and blessings.
But the monster lived, consumed our lives,
and became something other -
a manifestation of our fears.

On rainy nights when the roof leaked, when the bills piled up, nights I lay
in the hospital waiting for X-rays or surgery,
the monster's shadow stained the walls.

Sometimes I imagined he was a warden locking the doors.
Sometimes he was the doctors,
with their tiny knives and mouse-black eyes.
Sometimes I swear he was God.

Why would the Grim Reaper need a scythe if he can kill people by just touching them?

ddrober2003 • 2h
Because he is the Grim Reaper and he needs a scythe to reap. Otherwise he would be known as the Grimtoucher and that might get him on a list.

Lines Written in Early Spring
BY WILLAM WORDSWORTH
I heard a thousand blended notes,
While in a grove I sate reclined, In that sweet mood when pleasant though
Ring sad thoughts to the mind

To her fair works did Nature link
The human soul that through me ran;
And much it grieved my heart to think What man has made of man.

Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,
The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;
And 'tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.

The birds around me hopped and played Their thoughts I cannot measure:-
The budding twigs spread out their fan, To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there.

If this belief from heaven be sent,
If such be Nature's holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What man has made of man?

Photo of George Carlin with quote
‘"People are wonderful. I love individuals. I hate groups of people. I hate a group of people with a
'common purpose'. 'Cause pretty soon they have little hats. And armbands.
And fight songs. And a list of people they're going to visit at 3am. So, I dislike and despise groups of people but I love individuals. Every person you look at; you can see the universe in their eyes, if you're really looking."

Songs of Experience William Blake

The Chimney Sweeper: A little black thing among the snow

BY WILLIAM BLAKE

A little black thing among the snow, Crying "weep! 'weep!" in notes of woe!
"Where are thy father and mother? say?"
"They are both gone up to the church to pray.

Because I was happy upon the heath, And smiled among the winter's snow, They clothed me in the clothes of death, And taught me to sing the notes of woe.

And because I am happy and dance and sing, They think they have done me no injury,
And are gone to praise God and his Priest and King,
Who make up a heaven of our misery."

The Good-Morrow
BY JOHN DONNE
I wonder, by my troth, what thou and I Did, till we loved? Were we not weaned till then?
But sucked on country pleasures, childishly?
Or snorted we in the Seven Sleepers' den?
"Twas so; but this, all pleasures fancies be.
If ever any beauty I did see,
Which I desired, and got, 'twas but a dream of thee.
And now good-morrow to our waking souls, Which watch not one another out of fear;
For love, all love of other sights controls, And makes one little room an everywhere.
Let sea-discoverers to new worlds have gone, Let maps to other, worlds on worlds have shown, Let us possess one world, each hath one, and is one.
My face in thine eye, thine in mine appears, And true plain hearts do in the faces rest;
Where can we find two better hemispheres, Without sharp north, without declining west?
Whatever dies, was not mixed equally;
If our two loves be one, or, thou and I Love so alike, that none do slacken, none can die.

‘My favorite line in Sense and Sensibility (the book, not the film) occurs when Elinor is forced into conversation with this arrogant shithead guy at a party who does nothing but talk himself up and sound like an idiot and Austen writes:
Elinor agreed to it all, for she did not think he deserved the compliment of rational opposition.’

Caption ‘How my cat looks knowing I'm literally a slave to his four paws’

An orange tabby cat (with lighter orange/cream fur and darker orange stripes) is lying stretched out on its side on a textured gray-beige carpet.
• The cat’s body is relaxed and elongated, with its front legs extended forward and back legs slightly tucked.
• Its tail is curled upward in a gentle curve, showing clear tabby striping.
• The cat has a very smug, self-satisfied expression: eyes are narrowed into pleased slits, ears are forward and relaxed, and its mouth has a subtle upward curve, giving it a look of quiet superiority and contentment.
Bottom Panels:
• Left bottom panel: A closer side/angled view of the same cat, still lying down, emphasizing the same half-closed, blissfully arrogant eyes and slightly smiling mouth.
• Right bottom panel: An extreme close-up of the cat’s face, focusing on the narrowed, smiling eyes, pink nose, and whiskers. The expression strongly conveys “I know I own you.”
