Ho-hum, another visit to the vets booked in. Davidson, our new rooster has developed some sort of infection around his eye, and lots of scabs on his comb and wattle. I'm hoping it's just from fighting with another rooster a few days ago, but don't want to take any chances..

Had a bit of a scare yesterday; Harry was sneezing a bit and wheezing a lot, so ended up rushing her to emergency vet. Thankfully she doesn't have any avian flu, and there's no sign of gapeworm. She may just have a sore throat, since the wheezing is coming from her larynx. She has meds anyway 🤞
After the loss of my rooster, Alfred, I wanted to get a new boy to join my girls. A quick call to a rooster rescue centre nearby, and this lovely boy was looking for a new home. Picked him up this morning, slowly introducing him to the girls. He's been named Davidson, I don't think I'll change it.
Gutted! One of my roosters died today. Alfred Spatchcock managed to get his foot tangled in fencing around the enclosure, probably trying to fight with another of my boys, and likely died due to heat & stress. I had him about 3 years, raised from a chick, so sad to see him gone

I currently have 16 hens. Until recently only my youngest 10 were laying. 2 recent additions (Cracker & Cheese) weren't laying when they came to us, but within days, they started production again. Then two of my older girls started up again, meaning I was getting eggs from 14 girls. /1

Joy (sarcasm intended) Bird flu h5n1 has arrived in Australia. It's just been detected in WA, so no cases even remotely near to me yet. But I will be keeping an eye on it, need to protect my chickens!!
Just bought tickets to see Gary Numan in Brisbane next year!! He's supporting Simple Minds, not too fussed about them, tbh, but... GARY NUMAN!!!
