PJM missed its reliability target for the 2nd year. Less new generation bid into capacity for the third year running, while data center load growth continues to accumulate. When we think of how strained the grid was last week, remember we are currently operating within the reliability target.

Heat wave hits the east coast, and data centers are being looked to run "backup" generation to meet the challenge. This is the third time this year it has happened, and its looking more and more like "emergency" is to be the rule, not the exception. progressivereform.org/cpr-blog/pjm...

Renewable generation has become the least-cost source of generation for the grid, supporting the argument to build it both based on GHG reduction AND affordability. To attack this, fossil advocates have pushed to move the goal posts and use bad modeling. marylandmatters.org/2026/04/02/u...
‘Not based in reality’: Climate groups pan study added to Maryland's major energy bill - Maryland Matters
A study of the actual costs of energy generation seems innocent enough. But renewable energy advocates are sounding the alarm, saying the model underlying the study unfairly disadvantages renewable en...

On Friday PJM filed for a two year extension of the price collar, which will (partially) shield ratepayers from spiking capacity prices in the region (without the collar the 27/28 BRA would have been 60ish% higher than the already record high price). This did not happen in a vacuum.
So, Maryland Investor Owned Utility BGE fired 47 union employees - while keeping contract labor - last week, referencing its ability to recover costs.... At the same time posting yet ANOTHER year of record profits and having tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars for Superbowl ads.... Cool
