PostDoc @caryinstitute.bsky.social. Ecologist, Birder, Termite enthusiast: trying to understand how animals influence carbon cycling from regional to global scales.

I hope that the consultation process encourages the @arc-gov-au.bsky.social to allow an additional attempt for ECRs that used the final round of the DECRA as their 2nd attempt rather than waiting. Like many others, I was encouraged to apply in case the proposed schemes were no longer suitable.

The ARC’s intent is that recipients of current or previous grants who have met limits on the number of grants that an individual can hold should not be eligible for schemes designed to fulfil a comparable purpose. Similarly, the ARC intends to retain limits on application attempts for the Initiate scheme and transfer previous attempts from the Discovery Early-Career Researcher Award (DECRA), potentially allowing one extra attempt to ensure that applicants previously unsuccessful in DECRA have another opportunity in the new NCGP. During implementation, the ARC will ensure that all new schemes include these criteria where applicable and consider whether attempt limits are appropriate for other schemes.

The ARC has released their new set of grant schemes ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/news-and-pub... Before implementing them, they’re now going to “consult with the sector”. Hopefully genuinely, not just with a few disengaged DVCRs. In the meantime, there’ll be another round of Discovery Projects (DP28).
