“It’s a rare chance for the kids in this neighbourhood to play outside together, in a space big enough to frolic and safe from traffic” More local authorities need to make this possible easily, by simplifying the application process and ensuring it’s always free. Streets should be spaces for play.
Happy #PlayDayUk 🌳 #BritishPlayTherapyWeek2026 Today we celebrate #play As adults, it can be tempting to structure every moment or focus on the end result. But children benefit most when they're given the time, space and permission to lead their own play.
As we celebrate #BritishPlayTherapyWeek2026 we honour #GarryLandreth and his enduring belief in the power of play as a child’s natural language. Dr. Landreth’s wisdom continues to remind us to listen beyond words to understand children through the language they use most easily: play.
As we mark #BritishPlayTherapyWeek2026 we honour Dr. Garry L. Landreth and his profound understanding of children’s emotional development. Dr. Landreth reminds us that children form their sense of self through the messages, responses and relationships they experience with those around them.
#BritishPlayTherapyWeek2026 “Birds fly, fish swim, and children play." Dr Garry L. Landreth Simple yet profound words - have become a guiding philosophy for play therapists around the world. They remind us that play is a child's natural pathway for expression, connection, resilience and healing.

🎒 What's inside a MOBILE #PlayTherapy kit? The answer: I bring the therapeutic playroom with me - portable version of a standard kit. The kit may travel from school to school, but the therapeutic principles travel with it. 👍🧡

🧡🧡🧡🧡 #InternationalFriendshipDay In #PlayTherapy, friendships are often explored through play long before they're discussed in words. Children might act out friendship groups with figures, inclusion and exclusion, or replay experiences that have left them feeling hurt or isolated. Important work.
Does your child play the brilliant early years games from Orchard? Giraffes in Scarves, Ping in Pants, Little Bug Bingo etc. I found out yesterday that you can order up to 3 missing bits for only the £1.75 delivery fee. Super handy when you are missing a Water Boatman... #FamilyGames #EarlyYears

What might you find in a #PlayTherapy room? 💚 When words aren't enough, play provides children with a powerful way to communicate, process their experiences and make sense of their world.
A #PlayTherapy room: To an adult, it may simply look like a playroom. To a child, it can become a place where they feel understood, regain a sense of control, process difficult experiences and begin to heal. Because in Play Therapy, play isn't a break from the work... play is the work. 🧡
Happy International Self-Care Day! ❤️ Today is a reminder that self-care isn’t a luxury - it’s an essential part of supporting our wellbeing and helping us show up for ourselves and others. #SelfCareDay #InternationalSelfCareDay
The Power of an Emotionally Available Adult: Neuroscience shows that just one consistently empathetic, emotionally available adult can act as a "social buffer," interrupting the psychological damage of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

"Kids Do Well If They Can" - Dr Ross Greene Conventional wisdom assumed that kids will do well if they try to or want to. This viewpoint then framed any challenging behaviours as a motivational issue, thus creating reward and punishment systems. Dr. Greene's perspective challenges this:
#PlayTherapy Children's brains are still developing, so emotions such as anxiety, fear, confusion or trauma can be difficult to put into words. When children feel overwhelmed or unsafe, their nervous system takes over and feelings are often expressed through behaviour rather than language.
#PlayTherapy While the playroom is a safe space for children to process big emotions, your home is where those skills take root, through co-regulation with you. Children do not learn to manage their emotions by being told what to do; they learn by watching how you handle your own emotions.

15 minutes of child-led Special #Play Time. During this 15: Let your child choose what to play. Follow their lead - don’t direct the play. Resist the urge to teach, correct or solve problems. Describe what you notice rather than asking lots of questions. Be fully present. Put your phone away. 👍💕
#PlayTherapy 💚 "Their behaviour seems worse since they started therapy…"💚 It can be a sign that a child is beginning to feel safe enough to let out feelings they have been holding in. They may need to let out the feelings before processing them. Talk to the therapist if you are worried.
#PlayTherapy ‘After the session’: 🌱 Children may not fully understand what they explored themselves. Instead of asking, "What happened in therapy?" try saying: 💚 "It's lovely to see you." 💚 "I hope you enjoyed your special time today." 💚 "I'm here if you ever want to tell me anything.”
