Rory Blank@roryblank.bsky.social · 4h agoEven if there's no AI in a final game and they just use it to create placeholder assets for development on level design, and it absolutely gets completely expunged before release, I'm just not sure I see the point in doing that, when you could just as easily use a random stock photo.

I'm sorry but almost every dark mode looks like total shit. There are exceptions, and I'm pretty sure what they all have in common is that dark mode was *first*. It seems like taking a light mode design and creating a dark mode version of it is almost impossible. Better to just start from scratch.
I am always asking people—often after they are many hours of work into building a solution!—what problem they are trying to solve, and I am *always* getting dog-hearing-an-unfamiliar-noise face back.

Doing a cost/benefit analysis of bluesky use for myself, and it's not looking good. At its peak, Twitter was a legit positive force in my life, including leading indirectly to the best job I've ever had. As far as I can tell Bluesky mostly makes me mad, and I can't think of much good I get from it.
I guess when you have no principles of your own, using an existing framework to analyze a new thing and conclude that it is harmful probably looks like "jumping on a train".

LLM use and the bad mental habits it encourages are causing software to get buggier, but also even when software isn't outright failing, maintainers are manifesting what I have taken to calling Fiddlers Disease: rapidly changing things around (especially in the UI) with no apparent rhyme or reason.
There's never been a better time to be a guy who believes that the best answer to any code problem is a jillion more lines of code.

Has anyone done any investigative journalism into why/how bumper stickers are good now? In the past like 3 years I've seen a notable uptick in legit funny bumper stickers, and I don't think it's (only) because I've reached A Certain Age.
I spilled coffee and then posted a joke about how paper coffee cups are good siphons, and then I deleted it because I was like wait I don't think that's the right word for that, so then I started reading about fluid dynamics, and now it's 2.5 hours later and my Jira ticket is no closer to being done
