if you're playing Blood of Dawnwalker for the first time and using the time extension mod you are a coward. this shit will cure you of the completionist *disease* if you let it

Trying to get over my anxiety of sharing WIP videos. I always felt like all of my art posts should be chrome-polished and that no one is interested in a unfiltered, unedited look at what I'm working on. Here's a short feature video of a World Configuration tool for Soul Food. #ue5 #gamedev

The iconic Eames lounge chair makes for a remarkable art test prop, and I used to use it as a benchmark when I was an Art Lead. It has a little bit of everything: cloth, hard-surface, material variety. All useful in gauging where an artist is at with their skills.

I know you've seen a lot of it today, but yeah, I was also affected by the layoffs at Bungie today. Two years was far too short a stay, but I'm still such a better artist and developer than I was when I joined. Here's to my fabulous colleagues that were also affected, may we all land our feet. 🥂

I don't think people understand how hard it is to work in the video-game industry right now. If you've been laid off, it can take months if not years to find new work. If you haven't been laid off, you're anxious that you will be laid off. This week's column: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

It Sucks to Work in the Video-Game Industry Right Now

Even developers who successfully release big hits, like Fortnite and Battlefield, are losing their jobs

This article is a stark reminder that we need another budget bracket name. I was told several times during GDC that my barely 7 figure budget was AA priced. E33 was reportedly made for ~$10mil, which is way more than most indie titles, but a magnitude less than most AAA. So, Indie Deluxe? Indie+?

And here is some more context (from January 2025) for why games have gotten so expensive to make: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

GDC 2026 was probably the most I've ever felt like I was a part of the game development community, despite being a working professional in the industry for over a decade. Between the talks, the mixers, running into folks in the gardens, and demoing Soul Food - I'm feeling inspired again.

Like some of ya'll, I'll be at GDC from Monday evening - Friday morning. I'll be strollin' around Yerba Buena Gardens and the Expo floor demoing Soul Food and giving out stickers. I've got a calendar that's fillin' up with events, mixers, and meetings - but I'll always make time for friends!

Doing some more work with Basic Cable Games on their chef character I'm excited to get to this point because I'm FINALLY working on the stylized shading for this, and I can already see a ton of ways to improve and push it towards looking like their concept art

To be clear, I do not fuck with 95% of GenAI for all the reasons most artists don't. But saying there's *no* place for it seems misguided. The day there's a good AI driven UV tool, mocap cleanup tool, or anything that removes the tedium from making 3D art and animations.. I'm interested.

Working on a blockout of the main character for Basic Cable Games on their upcoming izakaya-chef-battling-monsters game, Soul Food! I knew the pants especially were going to present some sculpting difficulties, so I used a @render-ready.com scan of real chef pants as my starting point
