Righty Kevin Gausman has officially been added to the Cubs' roster. Left-hander Antoine Kelly optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

David Peterson is scheduled to start Thursday’s makeup game against the Blue Jays. As Counsell hinted yesterday, Kevin Gausman told media this morning he is lined up to make his Cubs debut on Friday in Kansas City.

No official announcement yet from Cubs, but Counsell said Kevin Alcántara was optioned to Triple-A to make room for Tyrone Taylor.

Tyrone Taylor starting tonight for Cubs. Counsell said he will get ABs versus lefties. That means there will be days out of starting lineup for Ian Happ (.530 OPS vs LHP this year). Counsell said Happ won’t sit vs. all lefties, but will pick spots. Happ could then enter mid-game (like Mon vs. LAD).

Clay Holmes said he’s ready to go and Cubs manager Craig Counsell said the same. His next start will be for Chicago, likely during KC series. Gausman’s debut also looks lined up for Cubs’ trip to KC.

The Braxton Garrett deal with Marlins is now official. Cubs have optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.

Per a source, the Cubs are trading Moises Ballesteros and Mason McGwire to the Angels for bat-missing reliever Ryan Zeferjahn, who is under control through 2030.

The Cubs are acquiring LHP Braxton Garrett from the Marlins in exchange for 1B/OF Jonathon Long (No. 10 on Pipeline's Top 30 for Cubs) and RHP Jace Beck (No. 28), MLB.com's Christina De Nicola has confirmed. Garrett has a 2.90 ERA in 77.2 IP in Triple-A and has a Minor League option available.
